news views fall 2009 principal s peace we continue each day to be blessed by the gift of your children and your families our faculty generates an enthusiasm for learning that is contagious and calls our students to excel in every way possible mr edwards energizes our faculty with creative ways to meet the needs of students and positive ways to promote self-discipline among students the parents who participated in the social studies or math field day were touched by some of the enthusiasm generated by mr allen and mrs crim if you enjoyed observing our students working on their new mac s you also know the dedication mr michael brings to the transformation of our library into a media center along with overseeing all technology in the school including sycamore and his outstanding work with new families in the admission of students in the media center i have witnessed the zeal our students bring to technology and the future our maintenance staff works diligently to keep the building in good working order clean and safe for our students mrs gooden and her volunteers have worked countless hours to prepare our race for education which has raised nearly $29,102 for technology your children have shared many new ventures in meals including breakfast thanks to mrs coffey and her magnificent staff it is an incomparable delight to minister with such devoted parents faculty and staff and we join with you to make our school a place for student growth each wednesday morning at 9:15 our students faculty and staff join together in prayer we have mass in the church or the gym on the days we don t have the opportunity for mass our students pray together in the gym during a special prayer service please come and join us this year our goal of improving student writing continues the entire faculty diligently works with students on writing after this first quarter the teachers share with students the task of creating a writing portfolio each year samples will be added to this portfolio it is our hope when our student s graduate each will have a magnificent writing portfolio with samples from each grade level our newly formed student senate sought ideas from every class level and shared them with the student senate we look forward to implementing some of these ideas during the year and continue to address student concerns the student senate served as junior book fair aides enjoying assisting with the book fair they are also working with mrs rickrode on the school wide shelter in a box project preparing a skit sponsoring an upcoming bake sale and also plan on holding a mix and match tag day during catholic schools week one of the suggestions that will be implemented is having a tag day on one s birthday the student senate will make sure anyone who has already had a birthday or has a summer birthday is able to participate be looking for this implementation in the near future for more information visit http www.shelterbox.org check it out if you have not been into the school recently please take the time to visit and walk our halls many of our students have beautiful artwork and projects hanging on display while a good grade or comment by a teacher is appreciated nothing is more reaffirming to a student than a parent s look of pride and joy when admiring their child s work 2
