Treasurer Janice Haughton Greater Manchester Drama Federation One Act Festival 2014 Festival Secretary & Stage Director: Paul Cohen Festival Stage Manager: Anita Stuttard The GMDF's affiliated network alone makes it one of the largest regional organisations of its type and its Full Length Festival is probably the largest drama festival to be held in Europe. As you are reading this, you will already know that we also hold a prestigious, long established, annual, week long, One Act Festival. The Board of Management comprises some 12 people all of whom give their services free of charge to the Federation and through a network of society liaison officers, provide advice and assistance regarding all aspects of amateur theatre. The GMDF is a registered charity Good evening everyone and welcome to the 54th GMDF One Act Play Festival. We have 10 plays for you this week ranging from comedy to drama which includes another strong set of youth entries. It’s a good mix and I am sure you will not be disappointed. We are pleased to welcome back Ian Townsend to adjudicate again this year. Ian is a highly respected writer / director / actor whose adjudications are always valued. The GMDF board would like to extend its thanks to the crew at Farnworth Little Theatre for their hospitality and support. On behalf of GMDF I do hope that you enjoy the plays we have for you this week. Sit back and relax.... you won’t be disappointed. ALL SECTIONS Vicki Lane Award (Meritorious Director) …………………………………………………………………………. Ian has been involved in theatre as writer, actor, director, producer and adjudicator. He was involved in amateur theatre for many years, directing more than 30 plays and appearing in over 50. He wrote the Manchester Theatre Award winning All the Bens, and the Edinburgh Fringe Critics’ Choice and 24:7 Theatre Festival sell out Granny Must Die. Other plays include The Final Days of Fringe Theatre (Manchester and London), The Last Chair (Manchester and West Sussex), Well Groomed & Bride Awake (Royal Exchange Theatre and Lowry) and Two Turtle Doves (Skylight Theatre, London). His latest play, The House in Sofia with a Map of its Surroundings, won the 2014 Kings Cross New Writing Award, and he received a special BBC Writersroom prize for his radio play The Lonely Walk Home, as part of the 2014 Alfred Bradley Bursary Award. He has just been accepted on to the BBC’s Writersroom 10 scheme, on attachment with The Octagon, Bolton. Always on the lookout for societies who challenge themselves and their audiences, as well as performing solid and well-produced crowd pleasers, Ian is delighted to be adjudicating the GMDF One Act Festival.
