advid interven ons in the world heritage alto douro wine region and/or ren areas associação para o desenvolvimento da vi cultura duriense · douro region wine cluster informa on bulle n 14-10 september 2010 may be planted on narrow one-row patamares or on micro-patamares ver cal row vineyards may only be planted on hillsides with a slope below 40 except when the soils are more liable to erosion such as in the municipali es of mesão frio régua lamego and santa marta where the threshold is 30 for areas above 5 ha with a slope above 20 a drainage study must be submi ed in accordance with the layout of the land douro world heritage the classifica on of the alto douro wine region as world heritage by unesco in 2001 as an evolu ve and living cultural landscape embodied the commitment to effec vely protect the classified heritage and preserve the features that give it excep onal universal value for which reason the alto douro wine region development plan piotadv was drawn up the piot-adv is a tool for the management of the region s cultural and living landscape with prescrip ve guidelines that classify as prohibited acts · the destruc on of natural drainage lines · changes in the morphology of watercourse banks or their vegeta on it is to be noted that under ar cle 72 of 309/2009 in conjunc on with no ce 15170/2010 the area surrounding the douro world heritage in other words the remaining area of the douro demarcated region is classified as a special protec on zone thus the whole demarcated douro region is required to comply with the principles of piot-adv interven ons including the re plan ng of vineyards or other permanent crops planta ons such as olive groves and almond groves require a favourable opinion from the drapn and the regional agency for the environment and regional planning and management comissão de coordenação e desenvolvimento regional do norte ccdr-n and must comply with the following requirements whenever a con nuous vineyard area above 10 ha is created in the same land layout system the installa on of hedges on working access roads must be provided for for plan ng a block on a holding with a con nuous area above 15 ha with the same land layout system when tradi onal drainage systems or other heritage values are at stake require the submission of a management plan for the whole holding plan ng on blocks already occupied by grapevines olive groves or almond groves with walls or with mortórios must be on narrow patamares or micro-patamares maintaining the stone retaining walls except in cases in which the drapn approves their removal not destroy vernacular elements such as stone walls vernacular buildings stone paving mortórios as well as groups of trees except in duly jus fied cases with the favourable opinion of the drapn plan ng on hillsides with a gradient above 50 is prohibited unless the block already has vines or other permanent crops or in the case of mortórios abandoned vineyards in which case they can be replanted in micro-patamares for hillsides with a slope of between 40 and 50 the new vines advid · quinta de santa maria · apartado137 · 5050-106 godim peso da régua · tel +351 254 312940 · fax +351 254 321350 · e-mail advid@advid.pt · www.advid.pt
