possible 3 days workshop on koha in an endeavour to create awareness on how to improvise the library management system by using modern-day technology the central library of delhi technological university dtu formerly delhi college of engineering conducted a `workshop on koha one of the best open source library management softwares in the world from october 22-24 2009 the workshop was inaugurated by prof p b sharma vice chancellor dtu amidst the presence of mr savitra sirohi managing director oss labs prof r k sinha dean ird and chairman library advisory committee dtu and mr r k shukla librarian dtu among others speaking at the occasion mr sirohi said koha is one of the oldest and best open source library management systems one of the key features of this system is that it can be customized as per the needs of an individual library it s easier and convenient to search digitized books and other resources through koha it also has an option through which one can have a virtual glimpse of a book searched and even read reviews on it from other readers which can enable one to make judicious selection of a book the three-day workshop focuses on installation usage and trouble shooting of this software system and is also providing hands-ontraining on koha to participants from dtu as well as other institutions in his inaugural address prof sharma said library is an important component of any institution and many a times institutions are created around libraries which are hub of knowledge and are instrumental in creating a learned society after becoming a university a much bigger role of dtu s library is envisioned our aim is to make this as one of the most powerful libraries in delhi which is not just the capital but the knowledge capital of the country the vice chancellor also asked for suggestions from the students and faculty members of the university on how to improvise upon the current library system at the university and make it more which a freescale systems laboratory will be established in the electronics communication engineering department of dtu a high-end design centre for photonics micro electro mechanical systems has also been awarded to dtu by aeronautics development agency govt of india workshop on`curriculum innovations and development one of the major problems plaguing our education system even today is outdated course curriculum we may have created more institutions and produced large number of graduates but when it comes to the curriculum imparted there is a huge gap between what is being offered and what is needed by the present and future society in an endeavour towards bridging this gap and introduce course curriculum that not only addresses the needs of the industry and society but also inspires graduates of engineering and faculty to think beyond the state-of-art a workshop on `curriculum innovations and development was organized today at delhi technological university dtu formerly delhi college of engineering this workshop was follow-up of a workshop held in august 2009 at dtu the agenda for today s session was to revisit the process of curriculum design make it relevant to the industry bring in the dimension of creative research and enhance the thinking ability of the students while at the same time provide flexibility and make curriculum agile in the age of rapid knowledge and technology obsolesce it was attended by eminent experts from academic institutions and industries including indian institute of technology delhi delhi university jamia millia islamia jawaharlal nehru university ggsip university national informatics centre drdo and maruti udyog ltd to mention some besides senior faculty of dtu in this address prof p.b sharma vice chancellor dtu inspired the experts to look ahead and develop a curriculum that makes even leading international universities take a relook at their own syllabi lets develop a thinking curriculum a curriculum which makes our student think and deliberate a talking curriculum curriculum that talks to the industry which implies that is gels with the direct requirement of the industry and makes them feel that it is specially designed for them and a curriculum that satisfies the needs of ever-learning community be it students or faculty he said participants at the workshop discussed and deliberated on the course content of all 14 undergraduate and 16 m.tech courses at dtu from the next academic session all ug courses of dtu including the programs which were earlier following delhi university curriculum will be provided innovated curriculum everyone was of unanimous view that the academic programs should be more in sync with the requirements of the local and global industry a proposal to reorient the m.tech program in electronics and communication engineering to m.tech in signal processing and digital design was also discussed on the occasion according to prof sharma the objective behind this entire exercise is to design and develop a curriculum that we possess with pride and practice with pleasure it is my mission and vision for 2010 to implement a curriculum at dtu which is at par with the best in the
