ezine welcome to the january 2011 edition of the village books ezine fantastically written and very exciting it proved to be one of group 1 s favorite books so far group 3 read a village books favorite `skullduggery pleasant by derek landy and `ruby holler by sharon creech as always `skullduggery pleasant was very well received the girls found it a little scary but in a good way those that read `ruby holler said it was a good story and they really enjoyed they mischief the two main characters dallas and florida created group 4 read`dragon rider and `wilderness by roddy doyle `wilderness received mixed reviews but everybody enjoyed `dragon rider next month the clubs be discussing `chinese cinderella by adeline yen mah and `holes by louis sachar book club updates the first meeting of the new year took place on the 4th of january the book was `my name is asher lev by chaim potok the group found the book very interesting in particular the descriptions of hasidic jewish life in brooklyn in the 1960s the group noted many parallels between the conservatism of irish catholic life and orthodox judaism during the 50s and 60s asher lev is a jewish artist this a contradiction in itself as hasidic jews are opposed to art the next meeting of the village books bookclub will take place on tuesday the 8th of february at 6.30pm when we ll be discussing `the true deceiver by tove jansson junior book clubs the junior book clubs started back with a bang on the 13th january with group 1 discussing `kensuke s kingdom by michael morpurgo and `dragon rider by cornelia funke `kensuke s kingdom went down very well with all agreeing that it s join the book clubs to join the village books book club or junior book club waiting lists just get in touch phone us on 845 5073 email us on info@villagebooks.ie or pop into the shop 1 village books ezine january 2011 ­ 845 5073 ­ www.villagebooks.ie
