student honoured by the royal environmental health institute of scotland the royal environmental health institute of scotland rehis honours individuals working and training within the area of environmental health at their annual awards ceremony for the 2nd consecutive year a student from reid kerr college picked up a top award at their highfield awards held in edinburgh margaret valenti completed the rehis intermediate food hygiene course with reid kerr and following her examination she was named the winner of the highfield award 2008/09 for achieving top marks in her exam margaret a higher clerical officer/secretary at inverclyde hospital in greenock irh was invited to attend the ceremony where she was be recognised for her achievements along with some of the most celebrated candidates to embark on courses with rehis last year both margaret s tutor at reid kerr sandra campbell and her employer michael mccall central production manager at inverclyde hospital agree that this achievement is a positive indicator of investment in people the benefits of margaret s training are deeply evident as she has contributed considerably to current haccp policy and food hygiene issues both at irh and paisley s royal alexandra hospital central production units resulting in more efficient and robust systems graham walker rehis director of training said congratulations to margaret on achieving top marks in the rehis intermediate food hygiene certificate exam i am pleased that she has been able to put the knowledge gained at reid kerr college into practice in her workplace electrical safety in the middle east employees of the arab contractors company a leading construction company based in the middle east and north africa have recently completed a training programme in electrical safety for construction sites delivered by bill burgoyne of the institute of construction engineering from reid kerr college with over 60,000 employees the arab contractors experience is widely diversified and covers a wide spectrum of the construction industry and its ancillary services including public buildings bridges roads housing and manufacturing the course was delivered in cairo covering the fundamentals of electrical protection systems on construction sites and included an introduction to the new protection concepts from the iee 17th edition wiring regulations in addition the programme delivered modules in prospective short circuit fault calculations and the design and verification of protection systems for construction sites there were 26 candidates ranging from contracts managers design engineers and site engineers andrew fogarty head of energy utilities at reid kerr said this training marks the first international delivery of the iee 17th edition related training and we are delighted that the introduction of the new standard is taking this type of professional development training out to an international market dr gamal el taleb of the british training solutions has been working closely with kim queen head of international corporate development at reid kerr and the arab contractors company in procuring and developing business on behalf of the college in egypt dr gamal confirmed that the success of the first programme has enabled them to proceed with further training to be delivered in nasr city and at reid kerr college from left sandra campbell mike mccall graham walker director of training at rehis and margaret valenti
