TRANSFER STUDENT INTEGRATION During your first semester it will be important to utilize campus services, meet faculty and staff, and students. These relationships will help with your adaption to Daemen College and your future academic success. Each institution is different and each student is as well. Some transfer students may feel overwhelmed, and after adjusting to Daemen College, our students finish their first semester strong. DAEMEN COLLEGE IS UNIQUE As you start your new and exciting journey towards your bright future, know that the policies, procedures, timelines, may be different then your previous college or university. Please seek out “Academic Policies and Procedures” on our webpage for a complete list. daemen.edu/academicpolicies As an active participant in your own academic success, you should be aware of your academic program plan, registration dates, and other important class information. Please use the Registrar’s website, and be proactive in your own accomplishments. daemen.edu/registrar As a student at Daemen, you have the privilege of working one-on-one with faculty, staff members, and administrators. While all of these people are important to your success at Daemen, your Academic Advisor is an essential component of your Daemen education. Your advisor will be a faculty member within your department. He/She is a great resource for you as well as an advocate for your success. Daemen also has designated a team of Academic Advisors that can assist you with your transition to Daemen. WEB ADVISOR WEB ADVISOR WebAdvisor is a vitally important online portal that is used for multiple purposes. As a Daemen student, you will need to utilize WebAdvisor several times throughout the year. WebAdvisor allows students to register online and provides access, for students and faculty, to information. WebAdvisor gives you confidential access to your class schedule, grade and financial aid information, transcripts, your account status and more. BLACKBOARD BLACKBOARD Blackboard is a web-based course management software system used to support teaching and learning either in the classroom, a hybrid environment, or exclusively online class. It is designed to help faculty integrate resources into their courses and allow students access to the content as needed in support of learning. Blackboard is used for course materials, class discussions, individual or group assignments, student grade feedback, and overall class collaboration on important course topics. The “always on” nature of Blackboard allows faculty and students to access course content whenever it is needed and convenient while providing a structured and secure environment for learning.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR AND HOLIDAYS Please visit the Registrar’s Website for a list of Campus Closings and important registration dates. daemen.edu/calendar during the fall and spring semester when classes are in session Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Friday 8:30- 4:30 pm. We hope to see our commuter students who work, stopping by in the morning before class. Other hours can easily be arranged by appointment. Call 839-8334. POLICY ON ACADEMIC HONESTY Academic dishonesty, of which cheating and plagiarism are the most common examples, is a serious violation of the principles of higher education. Daemen College takes the position that academic honesty is to be upheld with the highest degree of integrity. The College has a responsibility to support individual thought and the generation of new ideas. This cannot be done when violations of academic honesty go unchallenged. CLASS ATTENDANCE Regular and prompt attendance is expected at all classes and officially scheduled programs and activities. A student who is absent from class for any reason whatsoever will be required to make up the work to the satisfaction of the instructor. A student anticipating or having a prolonged absence from class (3 or more class days), due to illness, accident, or death in the family, should report this absence to the Registrar, who will convey the information to the appropriate instructors. Upon return, it is the student’s responsibility to discuss his or her standing in the course with the instructor who will advise of the appropriate course of action to be taken. CANCELLATIONS If a snowstorm or other event results in the cancellation of classes, the following stations will carry this information: TV channels: 2, 4, & 7. AM radio stations: WBEN 930, WGR 550, WECK 1230 AM. FM radio stations: WKSE 98.5, WTSS 102.5, WJYE 96.1, WYRK 106.5, WBLK 93.7, 97ROCK, WNSA107.7. Closings will also be posted on the College’s website. daemen.edu ACADEMIC COMPUTING SERVICES Workstations in the RIC and Business Building are available to all students and open for a total of 175 hours per week during the spring and fall semesters. Real-time schedules for summer session, holidays, semester breaks and final exam periods are posted on the Academic Computing Services homepage. daemen.edu/computerlabhours Academic Computing Services maintains student email, Blackboard accounts, fileserver space, printer management, campus-wide wireless and wired internet services, and the MyDaemen website. All of these services are available to Daemen College students in accordance with Daemen’s Acceptable Use Policies. It is expected that students check their Daemen email accounts on a consistent basis, as official messages may be sent only via Daemen email accounts. CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT (CTS) The Classroom Technology Support Department provides the College community with instructional equipment such as computers and video projectors, document cameras, digital video cameras, sound reinforcement, and many other equipment types. Students and organizations may also request the use of equipment through email at cts@daemen.edu or by phone: 839-8240. Identification Cards (Daemen ID) All students at Daemen College receive a College ID card free of charge. This card should be carried at all times. Specially marked IDs serve as verification for residents on the meal plan. All ID cards offer identification when borrowing books from the RIC, for admission to many campus events, making purchases in the Bookstore, using the Athletic Facility, etc. ID cards can be obtained in the Classroom Technology Support office (C.T.S.) located in Duns Scotus, Room 17. CAREER SERVICES Career events, job and internship listings, resources and department contact information are on our website at www.daemen.edu/career are available throughout college and upon/after graduation. FOOD SERVICE During the academic year, campus dining is as follows: • Wick Center Dining Room (all-you-can-eat venue) • Cyber Café (ala carte venue) • RIC’s Daily Grind (ala carte venue) “DC Bucks” can also be used for this purpose (affording an extra 10% buying power). All payments into a DC Bucks account are made at the Food Service Office in Wick Center. CENTER FOR VETERANS & VETERAN FAMILY SERVICES (Duns Scotus 129; phone 566-7855) Students eligible to receive Veterans educational benefits must be certified by the Certifying Official in the Registrar’s Office. Once certified for benefits, such students are required to notify the Registrar’s Office of changes in enrollment, major, etc. ACCOMMODATION OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES Daemen College complies with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and applicable state and local laws providing for nondiscrimination against qualified individuals with disabilities. This policy applies to participation in all College programs and activities. Daemen College will also provide reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities so that they may participate at a level equivalent with that of non-disabled students. In this connection, Daemen College has established an accommodation assessment procedure for evaluation of requested accommodation in light of legal guidelines HEALTH SERVICES A Student Health Form must be on file for all students, regardless of birthdate. Information regarding the services at Family Care Medical Center (for those students enrolled in Daemen College Student Health Insurance Plan), directions to the center, and/or transportation assistance, are available by stopping in the Health & Insurance Services Office, located in Wick Center, or by calling x8446. Emergencies after calling 911, always call Security at x8246 or 0 (from a campus phone); 716-839- 8246 (from a non-campus phone). COUNSELING SERVICES Professional counselors are retained by the College to assist students who are facing concerns of an academic, adjustment to college, personal, or social nature. The first fifteen sessions are free to Daemen students. Referrals to a number of community service agencies are also available. For further information, contact Shannon Radder at 839-8337 in Duns Scotus 228 LOCKERS Commuter students may obtain a locker each year by signing up for one at Wick Desk. Lockers are located in Duns Scotus, Schenck Hall and in the Business Building. PARKING Persons who drive vehicles on campus are subject at all times to the motor vehicle laws of the state of New York, to orders of the Department of Transportation and, where applicable, to ordinances of the Town of Amherst. Operation of a motor vehicle on campus is a privilege granted by Daemen College. Serious or excessive traffic violations may result in the loss of this privilege. The Director of Security has authority over the parking lots and the general grounds. ALL MOTOR VEHICLES MUST BE REGISTERED WITH THE COLLEGE WHEN OPERATED AND PARKED ON COLLEGE PROPERTY (EXCEPT FOR VISITORS TO THE COLLEGE).
