D ear Bryanstonians... department. Our thanks to Janet Bayliss for hosting this incredible event. A big thank you must go to Mrs Fulcher, Mr Hallendorff and Miss Hein for a very busy swimming season and for our participation in the Inter-High galas. The past couple of weeks of stormy weather has played havoc with our sporting fixtures and with the school infrastructure in general. Because of the weather we have had to cancel rugby and most of the hockey and netball matches so far this term but we are hopeful the weather will improve and that we will soon be able to carry on with the rest of our winter school sports. We have found leaks where there were no leaks before and, unfortunately, a lot of money will have to be spent on fixing damaged roofs, ceilings and passageways. Our cricket season ended on a high note with the annual cricket dinner. Congratulations to our under 16A boys for an incredible season. S chool LAN Club... On Sunday the 9th of March Bryanston High School held its first LAN Club meeting which included 11 Grade 9s. We met at the computer Room at 8am and started setting up all the Computers. With much laughter and jokes going around, we finally got settled and the gaming began. We stopped for delicious tea and lunch which was included in the entry fee. After a few practice rounds, the challenges began and the competitive nature of the participants was revealed, especially after they saw the awesome prizes up for grabs. I would like to thank the LAN Committee which is made of the following Grade 9s: Ian and Gareth Edwards, Rudolph Venter and Devlan McKenzie, who helped me put this great event together. Also a Big Thank you to Mrs. Pillay and Ster Kinekor for getting the Prizes that the Gamers fought so hard for. O pen Day for Prospective New Parents... was held at Bryanston High School on the 26th of February. With the school looking beautiful, and everyone ready to receive our guests, the heavens opened and a torrential down-pour hit the area, flooding many roads. The rain did not deter the hundreds of prospective parents and potential new Grade 8s of 2015 from coming to view the school. The RCL members welcomed visitors and took them on guided tours of the facilities. From “magic shows” in the Science Department, dissections in the labs, art exhibitions, cheerleading practice, SmartBoard presentations, subject displays and an excerpt of the musical production, Westside Story, the school was alive with energy! After a short presentation from the Principal, Executive Councillors and Caitlin Bell (who was a new Grade 8 herself last year), the parents were wished well on their way and asked to remember that applications are due back at the school from the 15th of April.
