PID Floors was founded on the core ideals of hard work, honesty and dedication. Founded by two brothers and their loving uncle, having escaped from the oppression of the Soviet Union, the goal has always been to create a better life for their families. They have always taught that the key to a prosperous multi-generational business is always working harder than the next guy and striving to be the absolute best. Putting clients first and building relationships is the key to longevity. Today, what started as a small family business now features three world-class locations in New York City and a global logistics network. 3

Foundation The three men who started it all – Michael Tsyngauz with his imagination and craftsmanship, Lenny Skutelsky with his business savvy and Ronny Skutelsky with his thirst for knowledge and talent – built the business from the ground up. They made sure the foundation was firmly planted in order to make way for the inevitable expansion which is underway today. We aren’t just a company of nice showrooms, the backbone is our Distribution Center in Brooklyn which houses our enormous central warehouse, our delivery fleet and our manufacturing facility where handmade parquet is made and our custom finishing line resides. It also houses a showroom and a pro shop and is a common destination for contractors and DIY homeowners. Over the years, as various opportunities have presented themselves, we have always kept our efforts focused solely on hardwood flooring. Today, we’ve amassed enough experience, knowledge and expertise to provide unrivalled service to our clients, and we’re committed to keep getting better. 4

Projects It’s not just about design – in a commercial space, form and function go hand in hand. A durable floor which complements the interior architecture is something we take pride in: building a spec and delivering it. Large-scale projects call for large-scale thinking. Keeping costs down while picking a quality product is tough, but we make it work. We also plan and coordinate the logistics of delivering material directly to the jobsite. 7

From classrooms to gymnasiums, for-profit and non-profit institutions count on us to deliver the right material at the right cost, and schedule everything around their bustling schedules. High-traffic areas call for very durable and long lasting floors, but still need to fit the design palate. We work with our clients to discuss the risks and maintenance requirements, ultimately helping them to find a product that works. The same hard work and attention to detail are given to our residential clients as we give to our architectural projects. Whether it’s a small studio, a large loft or a whole building, we treat our customers like family – not giving up until they find a product they love. World-wide retail chains and boutiques must have a memorable image, their stores are the face of their company and brand. We work with the architects responsible for creating and maintaining that image, and build unique and special specifications from the ground up. 8

Trends Just as in fashion, architecture and design trends are constantly evolving. Here at PID, we embrace the constant changes and strive to always be ahead of the curve when it comes to knowing what’s in vogue. Since we started selling hardwood flooring in 1989, we’ve witnessed quite a few fads come and go. Whether the current style is ultra-sleek and modern or rustic and distressed, we’re here to provide an unmatched selection to our clients in keeping with the image they want. How do we stay on the cutting edge of design? By performing detailed sales analysis to spot trends before anyone else, sitting in on lectures given by top architects, conference calls with our top factories, and traveling to all the world’s flooring exhibitions in North America, Europe and Asia. We’re constantly updating and molding our showroom selection to feature the hottest new items along with the timeless traditional options which have served us and our clients well for decades. With the advancements in factory finished and engineered wood floors, the amount of options available is staggering. At PID we understand that our clients have unique visions for their perfect wood floor, and don’t simply want the same cookie-cutter products. Our research and development staff works night and day to assemble the most unique products, with the most unique finishes and specifications, ranging from handsculpted and oiled finishes to square-edged straight grain materials to fumed oaks and so much more. The sheen, texture, color and size of the planks is all available for customization, and the products we have are there to not only keep up with the latest trends, they allow our clients to be trendsetters. 9

Treatments and Finishes Fuming, Smoking, Bleaching, Limewashing, Cerusing, Wirebrushing, Handscraping. The number of ways to alter the appearance of wood floors is colossal. But what does it all mean? There was once a time when all wood floors were finished using basic lacquer, which made all wood floors look very similar to each other: a glossy smooth top coat. Today, advancements in machinery and technology have made the impossible possible, creating an infinite number of possibilities and setting the limit only at our own imaginations. From penetrating oil finishes which highlight the natural texture of wood, to highly durable aluminum oxide infused polyurethanes, anything is possible. Factory-finished products allow for more coats and a fully cured, uniform finish on each and every plank. Our staff is highly knowledgeable about the intricacies of each type of finish and can discuss the relative merits of each to determine the optimal product for each project. Which finishes are better for high-traffic areas? Which finishes are more resistant to scratching and denting? What’s the best type of finish for a home with pets? These are all important questions and we can discuss them all at length. What do you want your floor to feel like? There are several options for the surface texture which create even more possibilities for a unique final product. Wirebrushing and Handscraping are the most common, which create a lovely texture you can see and feel. Some clients want rustic material with chiseled edges and open knots and cracks. Others want a smooth, glossy finish that they can slide on in their socks. Smoking and Fuming is a very important process, which chemically alters the natural tone of the wood. Instead of using a stain, which sits on the surface of the wood and goes away upon sanding, fumed material stays the same beautiful color forever. At the end of the day, there’s a lot to discuss. Each and every client gets personal attention, and is directed to the optimal product for his or her needs. We believe that if your floor will be under your feet for decades to come, it should bring a smile to your face each time you step foot on it. 10

The World of Unfinished This is where it all starts. Before factory finished floors were so prevalent, before engineered products revolutionized the industry, solid unfinished wood flooring was king. It remains the backbone of our business to this day. We stock thousands of square feet, and work with the finest mills to source all types of unfinished material for our clients. From domestic species like maple, red oak and walnut to French white oak and German beech, to exotic species like mahogany and teak, there is no spec which we can’t meet. We can educate our clients on the different grades and cuts of wood to help them make the right decision and get the exact look they desire, and provide samples for approval. Everything ranging from a standard plain sawn, mixed grade oak strip floor to a select grade quartered product is available. We also proudly offer the most sought-after specialty items such as birds-eye maple and figured walnut. Our mills also allow us to furnish the exact dimensional specs that our clients need. Random length planks, all long length planks, and custom herringbone sizes are all available in any specie, in both solid and engineered. Technological advances have not only improved the quality of wood flooring and expanded the possible options, they have also changed the landscape of installation. Sound control underlayments which minimize the noise from foot traffic are now used on a majority of wood floor installations. These are products made from cork, foam, recycled rubber and other composite materials. Special adhesives have been engineered, which make installation a breeze, providing peace of mind about bond strength, flexibility and longevity. There are also adhesives today which serve multiple purposes including moisture protection and sound control. These adhesives eliminate the need for a plywood subfloor to nail into, allowing you to install directly over a concrete slab or an existing floor. Patented locking systems instead of the traditional tongue and groove construction allow some floors to be “floated,” i.e. installed without any glue or nails. Installation Technology 12
