The city is situated on both sides of the Dragor River in the Pelagonia Plain, at the foothill of the mountain ‘Pelister’. The city of Bitola is an administrative center of the Municipality of Bitola which covers area of 78.795 ha and has 66 populated places with more than 100.000 inhabitants. Today Bitola can again proudly carry its second name – The City of Consuls, since it again has 13 consulates from the neighboring and major European countries. In the educational area, today Bitola has 23 kindergartens, 12 primary and 6 secondary schools. The University ‘St. Clement Ohridski’ (was opened in 1979) consists of several faculties and research institutions.
