FORD MOTOR COMPANY A CeNTuRY iNsPiRiNg The FuTuRe Un siglo inspirando el fUtUro Ford Argentina has played a major role in Ford Motor Company history for the past 100 years. Ford began selling vehicles in Argentina in 1913, establishing its first South American operations and its second offshore branch in the world. The years that followed included many milestones; from the first Ford assembly plant in South America to generations of outstanding products sold locally and around the world. All of these achievements helped make Ford Argentina a market leader as well as a key player in Ford’s global success. We are celebrating the 100th anniversary of Ford Argentina not only to honor our past, but also to inspire our future. When my great-grandfather Henry Ford founded Ford Motor Company, he wasn’t just pursuing profits; he was pursuing a greater purpose. He wanted to provide transportation for the average person and make people’s lives better. That idea has been central to Ford’s guiding principles ever since. We want our products to serve customers and society, and create value for everyone. Our employees, suppliers and dealers in Argentina embrace and exemplify this vision, not only in the products they make and sell, but in their dedication to being good corporate citizens and giving back to the community. As we look ahead to the next 100 years, we are focused on growing our business by delivering exciting vehicles that our customers want and value. We will do that by being a leader in the application of technology that makes our customers’ lives better. That includes developing new technologies to address critical global issues, such as environmental sustainability, that impact our entire planet. Ford comenzó a comercializar sus vehículos en el país en 1913 estableciendo así su primera operación en Sudamérica y la segunda fuera de Norteamérica. En los años siguientes Ford alcanzó numerosos hitos; desde la construcción de la primera planta de ensamblado en Sudamérica a sucesivas generaciones de sorprendentes productos vendidos en Argentina y en el resto del mundo. Todos estos logros han colaborado para constituir a Ford Argentina en un líder de su mercado, como así también en una pieza clave en el éxito global de Ford. Estamos celebrando el 100° Aniversario de Ford Argentina no sólo para honrar nuestro pasado, sino también para inspirar nuestro futuro. Cuando mi bisabuelo Henry Ford fundó Ford Motor Company, no lo hizo con el fin único de obtener ganancias. Lo que él estaba persiguiendo en realidad era un propósito más grande. FORD ARgeNTiNA s.C.A. 100 YeARs gOiNg FuRTheR Celebrating an anniversary is always an invitation for reflection. There is a moment of looking back at the everyday milestones, which have built the reputation of the honoree. Once this period is overcome, the perspective changes 180 degrees, highlighting the new outline of the steps that will follow. It is a moment to define new goals, strategies, and exercising everything that has been learnt in order to repeat it or improve it. As we were covering the first stage to gather those important events that took place during the last century, we proved what we had guessed. Ford Argentina spent these 100 years taking foundational steps for the local industry in general, and in particular, for the automobile industry. Multiple evidence given throughout these pages that our brand’s promise to “go further”, has always led every step Ford has taken with the same conviction the compass has when it points north. It is part of our DNA; it is impossible to abandon this promise for it embodies what we once were, what we are and what we want to become. This is the conviction that led us in every business direction and the one we daily go to, to project the future. It is the explanation to why we have always been, still are and will be doing things in Argentina. Customers, employees, suppliers, dealers and the community have been touched by this impulse, by this entrepreneur spirit of overcoming we all inherited from Henry Ford. I am sure everybody will find a Ford car that has to do with his personal history and that By Enrique Alemañy has meant a revolution for its time. Many family holidays starting on a reliable Falcon; President of Ford Argentina and Chile many girlfriends taking rides on the Taunus coupe, the coveted sportive car of the 80’s. Many children surprised by the on board computers and the solar roof of the Sierra, a forerunner vehicle. And what about the countryside? Was there any rural vehicle more representative than the “Chata”F-100? We launched it from a Hercules airplane, but you asked for it for years in our incipient roads. It has been not only a faithful working tool to face rural chores, but also most certainly, the vehicle with which one of our grandfathers, uncles or fathers taught us to drive. This is the bond Ford has with the Argentine people. The history of our vehicles established the rhythm of their times towards a technological evolution. During the XXIst century, we are all witnessing how we are getting closer and closer to technologies that were once reserved just for high range vehicles. Giving access is democratizing; it is giving the possibility of choice, and together with the One Ford Plan and the arrival of global platforms, we are achieving it. And we are striving for more, we cannot help it. By 2015, every vehicle available at our dealerships will be global. Our suppliers have joined us towards the same direction, by growing and helping Ford grow through the increasing integration of national parts in our vehicles. The product of this Argentine effort is taken beyond our frontiers. Going further is also developing, and to this end, it is necessary to invest, learn, teach and invest again, generating in this way, a virtuous and sustainable circle. An industrial center has been founded where only grassland existed at the beginning of 1960, modifying in this way the physiognomy of the area transforming it into a real industrial pole. We knew how to do it, but we also learnt along the way, because “going further” means exceeding oneself, and helping others follow suit. We created the current and always required Henry Ford Technological School, which has already formed 43 classes of electro-mechanic technicians. This same building becomes a school for adults in the evenings, helping us build the future. This is why we state that Ford Argentina has always striven for more, that it has always regarded education as one of its goals and that doing business in a sustainable way is also collaborating with the development of society. Together with our dealers, we reached out and covered our entire country, founding 41 rural schools between the 60’s and 80’s. And we haven’t stopped. As from 2003, we are returning to them in order to recycle them and provide the security, comfort and environmental care the new millennium demands. The first half of this new stage finds us refurbishing the 20th school of the program. Our first century in the country caught us by surprise because we are always thinking ahead. It caught us busy, trying to give a better experience to our customers. It caught us refurbishing our dealership net. It caught us emphasizing the new Ranger’s success, and giving the final touches to the new Focus. They are global vehicles, luxury ambassadors and Argentine models for the rest of the region. Both produced at home, in our Pacheco Plant, where I work with 4200 other employees every day. A place ,where we daily strive to “go further”. 13
