Dear Friends: What happened to the evolutionist when that meteorite crashed unexpectedly into Chelyabinsk, Russia, February 2013. Did their all-knowing science miss predicting that event? Oh, but they know what happened 500 million years ago! But these same scientists have not even identified 25% of the fish in the Amazon River. How much do they not know that is accessible to their investigation. Mysteries in the evolutionist’s back yard remain a mystery, yet millions of years ago, they know how it happened. Culinary researchers don’t even know where rice came from in the low country of South Carolina. From the tiny grain of rice to the vast expanses of the Universe, man is feeble and fallible in his knowledge. Thankfully, the Creator has given us His infallible record and His indwelling Holy Spirit to guide His children in all truth. The Voice in the Wilderness is dedicated as a helps ministry to equip God’s people to shine light into a dark place. NEWS BITS FROM HERE AND THERE Losing Insurance due to Obamcare - According to health policy expert Bob Laszewski, roughly 16 million Americans will lose their current plans because of Obamacare: The U.S. individual health insurance market currently totals about 19 million people. Because the Obama administration’s regulations on grandfathering existing plans were so stringent about 85% of those, 16 million, are not grandfathered and must comply with Obamacare at their next renewal. The rules are very complex. For example, if you had an individual plan in March of 2010 when the law was passed and you only increased the deductible from $1,000 to $1,500 in the years since, your plan has lost its grandfather status and it will no longer be available to you when it would have renewed in 2014. These 16 million people are now receiving letters from their carriers saying they are losing their current coverage and must re-enroll in order to avoid a break in coverage and comply with the new health law’s benefit mandates––the vast majority by January 1. Most of these will be seeing some pretty big rate increases. Kaiser Health News called up a few insurers around the country and found that hundreds of thousands of Americans have already received cancellation notices. “[T]he cancellation notices, which began arriving in August, have shocked many consumers in light of President Barack Obama’s promise that people could keep their plans if they liked them,” according to Kaiser Health News reporters Anna Gorman and Julie Appleby. “Florida Blue, for example, is terminating about 300,000 policies, about 80 percent of its individual policies in the state. Kaiser Permanente in California has sent notices to 160,000 people – about half of its individual business in the state. Insurer Highmark in Pittsburgh is dropping about 20 percent of its individual market customers, while Independence Blue 4•The Voice in the Wilderness - August 2013 Virtual Edition

Cross, the major insurer in Philadelphia, is dropping about 45 percent,” Kaiser reports. “Blue Shield of California sent roughly 119,000 cancellation notices out in mid-September, about 60 percent of its individual business. About two-thirds of those policyholders will see rate increases in their new policies, said spokesman Steve Shivinsky.” www.theweeklystandard. com Fraud Near You - Every three seconds an act of fraud such as identity theft is committed in the United States. Miami, FL www.komando.com Is there a Limit? An influential pediatricians group says parents need to know that unrestricted media use can have serious consequences. It’s been linked with violence, cyberbullying, school woes, obesity, lack of sleep and a host of other problems. It’s not a major cause of these troubles, but “many parents are clueless” about the profound impact media exposure can have on their children, said Dr. Victor Strasburger, lead author of the new American Academy of Pediatrics policy.... The policy is aimed at all kids, including those who use smartphones, computers and other Internetconnected devices. It expands the academy’s longstanding recommendations on banning televisions from children’s and teens’ bedrooms and limiting entertainment screen time to no more than two hours daily. Under the new policy, those two hours include using the Internet for entertainment, including Facebook, Twitter, TV and movies; online homework is an exception. The policy statement cites a 2010 report that found U.S. children aged 8 to 18 spend an average of more than seven hours daily using some kind of entertainment media.... The policy was published online Monday (10/28) in the journal Pediatrics. It comes two weeks after police arrested two Florida girls accused of bullying a classmate who committed suicide. -The Associated Press For more resources, visit www.thevoiceinthewilderness.org •5

"Seeking the help of the Devil...” “In ancient Britain and Ireland, the Celtic Festival of Samhain (pronounced Sahween) was observed on October 31. The souls of the dead were supposed to revisit their homes on this day and the autumnnal festival acquired sinister significance, with ghost, witches goblins, black cats, fairies and demons of all kinds said to be roaming about. It was the time to placate the supernatural powers controlling the processes of nature. I can tell better what a man had in his heart by reading his will than I can by reading his obituary. His obituary tells the world what his friends thought of him; his will reveals what he had in his heart.” - A. M. Vollmer For as (a man) thinketh in his heart, so is he- Proverbs 23:7.
