das humboldt institut why study german at the humboldt-institut the humboldt-institut e.v is a non-profit association established in 1977 for teaching german as a foreign language in the three-plus decades of its existence over 35,000 students from 154 countries have taken part in the institute s intensive language courses from a single program center at ratzenried castle which serves as its administration headquarters the humboldt-institut has grown to a network of 20 program sites throughout germany the institute owes the constant increase in demand in no small part to the fact that since its establishment it has always placed a great deal of importance on both challenging as well as supporting each student to the greatest possible extent this includes for instance an extensive placement test that all participants take on the first day of classes so that the teachers can make a careful assessment of each individual s prior knowledge students must receive at least 75 of the maximum number of points for a given skills level before they can advance to the next level tests are also conducted each week to monitor student performance with the aim of ensuring that all classes provide students with the best possible support in the learning process the humboldt-institut does not make comfortable compromises in this regard nor does it hesitate to move students down a level if they continue to demonstrate considerable deficiencies for the level to which they had been assigned small but fine linguistic nuances are often what prevents students from achieving perfection and it is because the humboldt-institut aims for perfection that so many students participate in its intensive german courses where they can truly gauge their success ·nootherschoolisfasterandmoreefficient in preparing students for internationally recognized language certification such as the zertifikat deutsch or the testdaf exam ·thehumboldt-institutistheonlyinstitution in germany that goes beyond the six internationally standardized language levels of the common european framework of reference as it offers a proficiency level of 12 weeks duration on top of the nine months of language instruction at the a1 a2 b1 b2 c1 and c2 levels 4
