instruction for riding school buses bus safety rules for students be on time 1 plan to leave home each day so that you will be at your bus stop five 5 minutes before the bus 2 remember that the driver will not wait for stragglers 3 if you have to walk where there are no sidewalks face the traffic and walk on the shoulder of the road use the left-hand side of the road so drivers can see you and you can see them 4 walk in a single file at the bus stops 1 stand away from the highway at the stop 2 wait until the bus comes to a full stop and the door is opened before moving toward the bus 3 use the handrail when boarding the bus 4 pupils must board and leave the bus at their regular stop location unless by written permission of parent and signed by principal or designee bus manners 1 normal classroom behavior is expected while riding the bus no horseplay 2 go directly to your seat and sit quietly 3 eating and drinking are not permitted on the bus 4 hold books and other belongings firmly 5 keep the aisle clear at all times 6 large or heavy article should be transported to school by your parents 7 there must be complete silence at all railroad crossings 8 nothing should go out of the window 9 report any damage in the bus to the driver as you leave the bus 10 the driver is in full charge of the bus and pupils pupils must obey the driver 11 the driver has the right to assign seats pupils must sit three to a seat if bus is equipped with seatbelts pupils must wear them 12 no animals dead or alive glass or glass containers sharp object ball bats batons or drumsticks will be allowed on the bus 13 riding the bus is a privilege serious and repeated misconduct with use of profanity fighting throwing objects will result in limited suspension when you get there 1 remain seated until the bus comes to a complete stop 2 follow the directions given by the driver for unloading 3 use the handrail when leaving the bus 4 be careful watch your step 5 move away from the bus as quickly as possible crossing the road safely crossing the road is the most dangerous part of a bus trip follow these steps 1 walk twelve 12 steps ahead of the bus at the edge of the road 2 before starting to cross stop look at the driver and wait until told to cross 3 walk quickly across checking both directions to be sure the roadway is clear 4 walk directly to the other side of the road do not stop to retrieve dropped items special trips 1 follow all school bus safety rules 2 stay with you assigned group and chaperone at all time emergencies 1 remain seated until driver gives instructions 2 follow emergency evacuation procedures above list is subject to district school board policies think pool efficiency reduce the operating time of your pool filter and automatic cleaning sweep to four to five hours each day this adjustment can mean significant energy savings conserving today means saving tomorrow visit www.westflorida.coop for more energy-saving tips.
