haere ra noho ora mai ra firstly of course congratulations and best wishes are in order as chris duckworth takes over a year 5/6 class in a full time position at redwoodtown school however given the way the holidays fell in relation to chris news that he had won the new position only a week before the end of term 2 meant that little time was available to adjust and allow for farewells etc chris was working in perth when he responded to an ad the school placed for a teacher in october 2006 following an interview online telephone that is chris got the nod and started at havelock in january 2007 a marlborough lad coming home since then of course chris has been a key player in the school as dp in the intervening six and a half years and during 2009/10 was acting principal myriad relationships are established over the years and so rather than simply expressing the community s gratitude for his contribution to the lives of local pupils on paper the school is hosting an assembly at 14:00 on friday 16 august in the school hall in this more personal way pupils and the community can express their thanks for his care and efforts during his time at havelock school it is envisaged that following the assembly parents and pupils will have an opportunity to mix and mingle over a cuppa and some finger food before the school dimisses at 15:00 there is a catch of course a plate would be appreciated should you be able to come and join chris and the rest of us mauri ora na akoranga learning for life since 1861 page 3

new fence you can t but have helped notice driving past the school recently that it has a brand new and very smart fence running right along the eastern boundary with state highway 6 this item has been on the property plan for some time and only with the help of some generous funding canterbury community and redwood trusts and friends of havelock school as well as some big volunteer hours has it become a reality following the removal of the old wire fence and broken poles construction started in the second week of the holidays and despite some dismal weather on the tuesday the serious ground work was completed with posts and a new footing boxed up ready for concreting and the fitting of the rails and bars david field james donald and family lyndon and harvey brownlee even had his own child-sized wheelbarrow provided the expertise and muscle to complete the job almost before the term opened work was completed with the gates hung last week and now only some landscaping needs to be done to complete this project the gate has a child-proof lock and the 1.57m height means leaping over the fence to retrieve small balls is no longer an option thanks to the board and all who helped complete this great new feature for the school pool keys thanks for tracking down your keys the following however remain at large please return even if you have one of these keys at your place with a number not listed but with the big yellow key-float attached please get it to school asap still looking for bryant 7 day 9 60 walker 13 mckay 35 luscombe 50 baker 54 mauri ora na akoranga learning for life since 1861 page 8
