t wenty welve ways an overview of the ten commandments the good lord has made himself very clear man can know god the right and blessed way why would a man refuse god s ten commandments and subjugate himself to a tyrant s ten s of thousands of endless laws and demands blessed are the undefiled in the way who walk in the law of the lord psalm 119:1 there are wondrous things to behold out of god s law if we only allow him to give the abundance and bounty psalm 119:17 and 18 so let us examine them one by one and taste the sweetness of his promised blessing keep my commandments and live and my law as the apple of thine eye bind them upon thy fingers write them upon the table of thine heart proverbs 7:2 and 3 thou shalt have no other gods before me this worldly technocyber obsessive-compulsive media preoccupation is a dedication tantamount to worship is the comment that technology is equal to oxygen not troubling ever heard of american idol or dancing with the stars what about these mega-million-dollar contracted sport heroes there was no doubt as to what god was telling the people of israel in this first command psalm 14:1 says the fool hath said in his heart there is no god they are corrupt they have done abominable works there is none that doeth good god said to israel in deuteronomy 6 4 and 5 here o israel the lord our god is one lord and thou shalt love the lord thy god with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might with a study of the historical background it is obvious that idolatry was a problem during this period this first command was so very important in reminding israel who god is and what he had done for his people even today with body worship and the unimaginable perversions 4·the voice in the wilderness march 2013 virtual edition

of society this first of the ten commandments is all needed to indict this wicked culture thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image not only is it essential to recognize who god is but also it is absolutely imperative that he be worshipped properly any image made from stone wood gold from the heavens earth or seas regardless whether graven from a substance or conjured in the heart and mind god has strictly forbidden such sinful man wants to make god in his own image man has the idol making propensity to worship the creature and created more than the creator however creativity and art is not forbidden god did not prohibit the carved cherubim of exodus 25 verse 18 through chapter 26 verse 1 then in numbers 21:8 and 9 god commands moses to make a brass serpent in 1 kings 7 23-25 are the oxen so the making of an image is not the problem but a graven image of god is a wicked violation of who god is and the second commandment is critically tied to the first declaring this truth and establishing the foundation for worship it is not god s plan for man to make lifeless images of god but through the one true and living god sinful man is to be transformed into god s image through jesus christ there are to be no graven images only transformed images thou shalt not take the name of the lord thy god in vain the case here in the third commandment concerns not only the use of god s name but the misuse of god s name as well the bible records the many names of god that clearly give the reader an unquestionable look at who god is exodus 34:6 and 7 records the lord god merciful and gracious longsuffering and abundant in goodness and truth keeping mercy for thousands forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin and that will by no means clear the guilty visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and upon the children s children unto the third and to the fourth generation who is god he is merciful just and holy from commitments courts contracts calamities casual conversations conduct competition and carelessness men vainly profanely and insanely use and misuse the name of god to their own judgment the casual cursing and careless use/misuse will soon come to an end philippians 2:10 and 11 says that at the name of jesus every knee should bow of things in heaven and things in earth and things under the earth and that every knee should confess that jesus christ is lord to the glory of god the father in all his mercy and grace god will not clear the guilty remember the sabbath day to keep it holy look at this the longest of the ten commandments and behold the creator and the christ one day of rest in seven a year of rest in every seven years and the jubilee after the 49th year is to be observed every 50th year why god is the creator and he instituted this rest by the way just take this for more resources visit ·5

command in exodus 20:8-11 and you will eliminate the long day and theistic evolution confusion god s creative day is defined with no room for ages of time christ has said in matthew 11:28 and 29 come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and i will give you rest take my yoke upon you and learn of me for i am meek and lowly in heart and ye shall find rest unto your souls in our creator/christ there is physical spiritual and eternal rest hebrews 10:24 and 25 gives us occasion to come apart and rest but also encourages good works honor thy father and thy mother is this command included on the first stone table i believe so even though commandment 5 seems so very different from the first four the connection is clear if honor is denied parents how is one to honor god very early the child must be taught to honor parents and authority so later in life the young person will honor god godly parents will teach respect holy living and the importance of the proper relationship with parents these lessons learned carry over into the child s relationship with god the divine plan is clearly seen in command five demonstrating how the first four commandments are to be taught love discipline teaching training and respect are all part of this early relationship between parent and child which will carry over into the relationship with god a parent s disobedience to scripture can set the pattern of disobedience for the child thus the fifth commandment is inextricably linked to the first four commandments coming in the spring 2013 edition thou shalt not kill thou shalt not commit adultery thou shalt not steal thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor thou shalt not covet more ten commandment lessons found online and in the 2012 yearend edition of the voice in the wilderness t hall of faith series request your set of 12 cards with an offering to this ministry wenty welve ways hall of faith i exodus not thou shalt have no other gods thou shalt make unto thee any graven image before me 20:3 exodus 20:4 no reprod uction withou t written permission no reprod uction withou t written permission halll o ha l off hall ffaith h aith halll off al o f faith aith tof publishe d by the collector ser voic ies www.the e in the wild erne voiceint hewilde ss ashevill rness.or e nc g faith ii t publishe d by the collector ser voic ies www.the e in the wild erne voiceint hewilde ss ashevill rness.or e nc g 6·the voice in the wilderness march 2013 virtual edition great for personal study access more twenty twelve ways family devotions lessons at sunday school homeschoolers
