ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear welcome to the 2010-2011 school year we are very pleased to share this information about new employees and those who are returning this year in different roles you will see many new and some familiar faces in the hallways of our buildings please welcome these faces to our pv family for a listing of all hirings please refer to agendas and minutes on boarddocs district office mark mcintyre director of special education mark has worked in special education for over 23 years he has been a special education supervisor assistant director of special education and a director of special education prior to joining the pvsd team mark lives in bedminster township with his wife linda and three children ages 18 19 and 21 he enjoys spending time with his family swimming boating biking and going to amusement parks music is also enjoyed by the entire family mark is looking forward to being a part of the pvsd kimberly rantz technology systems specialist i have a bachelors degree in computer science from ursinus college i ve worked in the information technology field for over 20 years i live in royersford with my husband brian and our two sons corey and daniel when i m not cheering on my sons playing football and baseball i enjoy going to the beach watching the phillies and penn state football i m looking forward to being a part of the perkiomen valley staff deanna weintz behavior specialist deanna has a master s degree in criminal justice and 27 hours at temple university toward a master s in aba most recently deanna spent two years as the district behavior analyst at pottsgrove school district she also has 15 years of experience providing aba/vb consultation to children and families in montgomery county pa this publication includes hirings as of september 30 2010.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear patti colucci graduation project/career elective coordinator i have a bachelor degree in psychology and my master in social work from the university of pittsburgh most recently i have been a stay-at-home mom with varied volunteer roles prior to that i have worked for various national non-profit organizations including the leukemia lymphoma society american diabetes association and juvenile diabetes research foundation with each of those positions i utilized my grant writing patient service and fund raising skills with more traditional social work i have also worked with dual diagnosed teens and was a unit manager for a 30 bed alzheimer s unit i am looking forward to working with our high school students to make their graduation projects and career study meaningful high school maureen curcio english long-term substitute teacher i am thrilled to be back at perk valley after graduating from pvhs i attended gwynedd-mercy college and graduated this past may with a b.s in secondary english i am very eager to start my career as a teacher the most influential and rewarding profession in my opinion outside the classroom i volunteer my time as a sunday school teacher and i work at the variety club camp for special needs students during the summer i spend my free time writing travelling and being outdoors as much as possible i have a life-long personal goal of stepping foot on all seven continents three down four to go paul heggie english long-term substitute teacher my teaching journey started in state college where i earned my bachelor s degree from penn state university i have worked for the state college area school district inner city of philly downingtown area school district and now perkiomen valley since i m from pittsburgh i bleed black and gold yes capitalized but i hope you won t hold that against me i love to write play music and do anything outdoors especially camping and hiking i can t wait to meet everyone here and have a great year with our students at pvhs rachel lilick science extended daily substitute first i would like to thank everyone at pv for being so welcoming i am a recent graduate of millersville university with a bse in earth science my first teaching job was at pv summer school which was a great learning experience i am very excited to be back for the fall but i am hoping that i will be able to stay at pv after my substitute position ends in my free time i enjoy water skiing wakeboarding horseback riding skiing snowboarding and singing on wednesday nights you either can find me at phoenixville raceway helping my little brothers with their quarter midget go-karts or at the 4-h center supporting my sister and the mounted drill team i am thrilled that i found a position at pv and i m proud to be a viking!

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear mary sawyer family/consumer science teacher i received my bachelors in fashion design from philadelphia university and moved to work in new york city in the fashion industry after a few years working for various companies i decided to change career paths but stay in the creative field and went back to school and got my masters in art education from montclair state university i then took the test for family and consumer science and am very excited to be a part of perkiomen valley high school and east middle school high school luke seymour counselor i have an undergraduate degree from the university of connecticut and a master s degree in psychology from westfield state university in massachusetts this is my twelfth year as a high school counselor the first eight years were in my home state of connecticut and the last three at daniel boone high school in birdsboro i moved to pennsylvania in late 2006 and live with my wife of nineteen years and my twelve year old son i am pleased to be part of the pv family and look forward to a rewarding career here melissa storm business teacher this is will be my sixth year teaching i spent the last three years at sun valley high school in the penn-delco school district i received my bs in marketing in 2002 and my mba in 2003 from philadelphia university while attending philadelphia university i played basketball for four years and softball for two years i have been an asst women s basketball coach at philadelphia university for the past 6 years after graduation i worked for a few years in the business world and then decided to go back to school to become a teacher i went to gwynedd-mercy college and received my teaching certification in december 2006 i currently live in blue bell with my husband brett and my 7-month-old son brady.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear paul direnzo instrumental music teacher i m incredibly excited to begin the upcoming school year as an employee of a school i used to attend i grew up in collegeville and graduated from pv in 2004 in 2008 i graduated magna cum laude from the honors program at west chester university with a degree in music education and a minor in music history in the past two years i have worked in new hope-solebury school district as a half-time teacher and quakertown community school district as a long-term substitute in addition to directing the instrumental music ensembles at mse i currently work as an assistant with the high school marching vikings and teach private guitar/piano lessons when i m not at school i enjoy performing in a local rock group and following philadelphia sports teams i currently live in an apartment in ambler but will be moving to my first house in norristown very soon i look forward to continuing the tradition of musical excellence in perkiomen valley middle school east ana herrera computer long-term substitute teacher i am very happy to be a part of the perkiomen valley middle school east team as the 7th 8th grade computer teacher i was born and raised in texas and yes i was also raised to be a cowboy fan i received my bachelor of arts degree from the university of texas at san antonio i have 10 years of teaching experience in texas i am thrilled to have an opportunity to teach in pa i have been blessed with an amazing husband and two beautiful girls we currently reside in harleysville teaching is truly my dream job and i look forward to continuing my teaching career here at perkiomen valley school district greg kirsinger gifted long-term substitute teacher mse i recently received my bachelor s degree in technology education from millersville university and am really excited to teach gifted at pv in the east middle school i also attended penn state for two years studying architecture which really helped me learn to think outside the box in addition to being a teacher i played baseball volleyball swam coached baseball at solanco high school play guitar snowboard love history and have an interest in fitness these are all things that i feel will help make me an interesting and effective teacher i just got married this past july and recently moved to the collegeville area it s a great district from what i ve seen and look forward to the upcoming year as a teacher!

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear kerri kirsinger middle school east technology education teacher i recently graduated from millersville university with my bachelors degree in technology education while at millersville i spent a year as an art major before transferring to tech ed earlier this past july i got married and soon after moved here from allentown pa i enjoy hiking softball reading baking and hope to become involved in student activities this is my first year teaching and i am very excited to be here at pv middle school east janelle riaubia instructional paraprofessional i attended indiana university where i received my bachelor s degree in elementary education i have experience teaching preschool and also worked as an instructor for an art enrichment program my hobbies include art photography hiking and camping i also love music and enjoy singing and playing the piano my husband and i live in lansdale with our beagle boone i am looking forward to a great year at perkiomen valley naomi rodriguez 7th grade mathematics teacher i am excited to be in my home school district after teaching for six years in the norristown area school district i hold a m.s in education with a specialization in brain-based instruction principal certification and i am currently a national board candidate i love implementing technology in new ways and making math fun for all of my students.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear middle school east 7th grade english/social studies long-term substitute teacher i was born and raised in the state of washington and recently moved to pennsylvania i taught 7-9 grades for ten years both language arts and social studies i also coached girls basketball for seven years in 2004 i obtained my national boards certification in early adolescence social studies i enjoy spending time with my family and learning all that the east coast has to offer i have four kids five if you include my husband angela 10 jaime 8 shelby 7 and ally 1 they keep me extremely busy i am excited to be joining perkiomen valley school district and east middle school rebecca sjoblom matthew stollery emotional support long-term substitute teacher after graduating from temple university in 1998 i spent ten years as the director of an alternative school serving special education students in bucks county during this time i had extensive training in the therapeutic community approach to helping at-risk youth i am currently working on expanding my professional credentials in the field of science my wife vanessa is also a teacher and climbing instructor who has put her career on hold to raise our two daughters riley and addison in my free time i enjoy snowboarding kayaking and playing competitive disc golf diane terr y 6th grade mathematics teacher i graduated from temple university in 1990 with a b.s in elementary and early childhood education working various jobs to finance my education i decided to take a brief detour from education which turned into 18 years of managing a dental office in wayne still longing to teach i made the decision to pursue a teaching career and am thrilled to be working at pv i feel fortunate to have this opportunity and am looking forward to working with my 6th grade students at middle school east currently i reside in worcester with my husband lee and our two daughters emma and olivia.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear brad burns autistic support teacher aloha i recently moved from the island of oahu in hawaii to be a part of pvsd at middle school west i began my undergraduate studies at millersville university where i received a bachelor s degree in psychology shortly afterwards i met my wife bought a van and traveled across the u.s for 2 1/2 months upon returning i continued my education at immaculata university obtaining a dual certification in special education and elementary education during this time i also taught students with autism at devereux cares aps for 3 years i also gained experience in the public school system at james campbell hs in hawaii this past year aside from teaching i am also a musician and enjoy hiking traveling and photographing our world i am thrilled to be a part of the team and am looking forward to a great year middle school west julie faulkner part-time cafeteria monitor i am happy to be joining the wonderful staff of perkiomen valley middle school west as a cafeteria monitor i have a b.a in elementary education and a minor in english i have a 20-year i.t career behind me in pennsylvania i worked as a project manager at the vanguard group for five years in new york i worked for eleven years at a software company information builders working in education customer support and managing technical writers at this time of my life i am putting the corporate world behind me and doing what i enjoy most which is working with young people i have a husband bill and two children who are both students in pv my daughter chelsea is in 9th grade and my son william is in 7th grade at pv west i look forward to a great school year dona fretz food services assistant ever since i was young i ve enjoyed cooking baking and food in general that s why i m delighted to join the wonderful ladies in the pvms west cafeteria i seem to have the need to feed people so this is the perfect place for me i grew up in quakertown and graduated from the high school there i was a stay at home mom for quite a while where i had lots of opportunities to perfect my culinary skills in 1996 i went to work as a preschool teacher at rainbow express preschool in lansdale i loved it and i stayed there for over twelve years in 2008 i felt the need for a change and went to work for starbucks coffee company as a barista and cafe attendant this allowed me to combine two of my passions coffee and customer service currently i reside in royersford and i enjoy walking nature football reading sewing cooking and entertaining but more than anything i love to bake i m looking forward to getting to know both staff and students at perkiomen valley.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear david hartzell instructional paraprofessional autistic middle school west what s up pvsd my name is dave hartzell and i am helping out in an autistic support classroom at middle school west i graduated from university of delaware blue hens are tougher than they sound i swear in 2007 and have been teaching 5th grade in richmond virginia since then i was supposed to be teaching in south america for the next few years but due to some unforeseen circumstances i am back in the area as of the middle of august i am extremely glad to finally be back in the area for a phillies playoff run i love to travel all over the country and the world so if you have any connects with people in an interesting place hook it up brian smith american sign language interpreter i am so excited to be working at middle school west i come to pvsd from the wissahickon school district where i have worked for the mciu for the past 16 years i have had the pleasure to work at a variety of levels and settings while serving at this position i earned my bachelors degree in business education bcit from gwynedd-mercy college i also possess a degree in interpreter education from mount aloysius college in cresson pa currently i am pursuing certification for special education from gwynedd mercy as well i am nationally certified as a sign language interpreter nic through the registry of interpreters for the deaf in addition to educational interpreting i also provide interpreting services after school hours through several sign language interpreting agencies in the philadelphia area i live in the lower pottsgrove area when not working i enjoy running and volunteering with the american red cross blood services i am looking forward to a great school year ahead.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear alexandra amoroso first grade teacher evergreen elementary i am very excited to be teaching first grade at evergreen this year in may 2010 i graduated from penn state with a bachelor of science in elementary and kindergarten education i student taught in kindergarten plus at both evergreen and skippack elementary and was an extended daily substitute in third grade at evergreen i currently live in eagleville with my parents and enjoy spending time with family and friends i am thrilled to be back at evergreen and to be part of the perkiomen valley school district jenna breidinger instructional paraprofessional i am excited to be part of evergreen elementary school and the perkiomen valley school district i received a bachelor s degree in business and economics from lehigh university after 3 years in the field of marketing i decided to go back to school part-time for education and received my master s degree and teaching certificate from cabrini college as an instructional aide i hope to gain the experience necessary to someday have my own classroom in my spare time i enjoy running and spending time with my friends and family i am passionate about teaching and am excited to begin this new career and life megan kelley kindergarten long-term substitute teacher i am a long-term substitute for jenelle gustafsson and am thrilled to be working in kindergarten at evergreen elementary this year i hail from saint joseph s university where i received my undergraduate degree in elementary and special education as well as my master s degree as a reading specialist my interests include basketball softball travel and volunteering i am very passionate about teaching and am looking forward to a fantastic school year jade rodeheaver transitional kindergarten teacher i am so excited to be joining perkiomen valley school district i graduated from elizabethtown college this past january and this is my first year teaching i have worked for the bucks county intermediate unit for the past four summers and i spent the last semester substitute teaching for a few districts in the area i currently live in hatfield and i enjoy watching movies camping and spending time with my friends and family i am looking forward to a great year at pv!

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear patti fr y part-time cafeteria monitor schwenksville elementary i graduated york college of pennsylvania with an associate s degree in business management i have held various positions in the district for the past 5 years but a title 1 aide has primarily been where i have spent the most time and have truly enjoyed that position i have been married for 20 fantastic years and have 3 wonderful daughters who went to school within the school district my oldest recently graduated and is presently attending temple university while being a member of their dance team my other daughter is a sophomore at pvhs and is on the varsity cheerleading squad and loves to sing and dance my youngest is in 7th grade at pvmsw and is an avid swimmer and dancer i am extremely busy being a taxi mom daily after school for my kids while enjoying traveling to all their competitions and shows i am a big flyers fan if i ever have any spare time in my life i would love to start going to a gym and working out again jen texter learning support long-term substitute i am very excited to start my teaching career at perk valley i received by bachelor s degree from eastern university this past year and am certified in elementary early and special education while going to school i worked at grace lutheran preschool in pottstown their half-day schedule also allowed me to be a stay at home mom my daughter kayleigh will be starting second grade this year and my husband earl and i will be celebrating our ten-year anniversary before the end of the school year we both grew up in south jersey but are very happy to call pennsylvania home for the last twelve years i love reading when i can find the time and have used reading to my daughter as an excuse to read the harry potter series multiple times as a family we practice the martial art of tae kwon-do and my daughter loves that she outranks me i am looking forward to my year at pv and hope to find a more permanent role here in the years to come.

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear sherrie iskenian 1st grade long-term substitute teacher skippack elementary let me introduce myself my name is mrs sherrie iskenian is-kenny-in i will be teaching first grade at skippack elementary school this is my third year teaching first grade i spent two years at spring-ford one year as an instructional assistant and my second year teaching first grade as a lts prior to spring-ford i taught first second and third grades in the east penn school district in august 2005 i graduated from kutztown university with a bachelor s degree in elementary education i am also a graduate of spring-ford school district my husband s name is gary gary is a realtor for keller williams real estate in blue bell we have a very playful black cat named oliver and an ever curious cat named emma i enjoy the outdoors walking singing photography and anything peanut butter i am very excited to become a part of the perkiomen valley family i am looking forward to a great school year counselor skippack evergreen and south elementary schools i have a b.s in psychology from ursinus college and a m.s in counseling from villanova university prior to having my children i worked as a counselor in the private practice and college settings over the past five years i have been an active volunteer and tutor at royersford elementary school while attending rosemont college to obtain my elementary counseling certification i live in royersford with my husband my three children and two dogs my twin daughters morgan and macy are 5th graders at the spring ford intermediate school and my son myles is a 4th grader at royersford elementary school i am very excited to be joining perkiomen valley as an elementary counselor at skippack evergreen and south and i am looking forward to a wonderful school year mic hele turner

ne w faces 2 0 1 0 2 0 1 1 schoolyear carrie o neill instructional paraprofessional i am enjoying being a part of the pvsd family as an instructional para i have been a teacher since 1999 in first grade and transitional kindergarten in maryland and new jersey i am a 2008 graduate of eastern university where i obtained a second bachelor s in early childhood elementary and special education i am currently certified in both elementary and special education i just got married in july 2010 which brought my 7-year-old son and i to the phoenixville area from south jersey i love our new home and look forward to biking the local trails with my family i also enjoy watching our favorite sports including my son s soccer league and time with our friends south elementary dorie sobeck counselor i m happy to be the school counselor at south elementary school i received my bachelor of arts degree in communication studies from bloomsburg university and my master s degree in counselor education from west chester university after graduating from college and prior to graduate school i worked in corporate sales for 12 years i live in malvern with my two sons zack and nate and our two pets my interests include spending time with family and friends reading traveling and being outdoors i am passionate to help create pathways for all students to achieve success and am thrilled to be at pvsd gerry steffenino part-time cafeteria monitor i am excited to have a permanent home at south elementary as a part-time cafeteria monitor i have worked in the district traveling spontaneously from school to school as needed as a substitute aide for the past 4 years because i enjoy working and helping all the children it has enabled me to learn and grow yet still be available for my children after school and on days off i have a bachelor of science degree from lasalle university in marketing and human resource management with several years experience in sales i live in skippack with my husband 3 kids and 2 dogs.
