festivals by siobhan h the saint john s the saint john s day s aint john was a holy man who was born on 24th june with great love in his heart he baptized jesus in a river called river jordan because of his importance his birthday is celebrated still his birthday is usually celebrated with a big bonfire at midsummer because midsummer in ancient times on 24th june many countries around the world celebrate saint john s day but who was he and what is the tradition behind it was the season for fire rituals as the fire of purification this bonfire is made from wood paper small sticks and a lot of flammable objects many places around the world celebrate this special day in that way even if it is not summer time at the place so the bonfire is in fact something very traditional for saint john s day the saint john s day in greenacres b ecause saint john s day is celebrated in midsummer time the camphill communities in ireland including greenacres have outdoor activities the activities includes things like going out for walks games cultural tours but the main and different thing is about how we change our houses we do nice hand made crafts like doves midsummer suns small hanging suns sun around a candle on a table etc this year to commemorate the saint johns day we had a meal outside at farmhill house our main house it was a brazilian barbecue made by our co workers from brazil marcos and marcia.all of the community were there plus saint margaret s ladies and some friends as thomas i have been away on holiday to edinburgh in scotland where i stayed in a camphill community i slept the nights in a caravan i met nice people especially gill who is a good friend of mine we went for many drives around the countryside one day we had a picnic lunch on the beach there i went for a long walk where i saw the dog running out of the water .then i ran very fast where i frightened the seagulls off the beach .i also went for a walk with brenda along the promenade beach, which i really enjoyed 4 greenacresnews my summer break by andrew ryan one day went and watched a funfair where i saw dodgum cars which were flashing we watched the abba mama mia movie on the tv which was in the house of the community one day we went to the park where i remember brenda and i being photographed of me eating ice cream it had red jam on top of it and the flavour was vanilla which is my favourite we also listened to music and after the park we went home .one day we had ice cream and hot chocolate at a pub called ryans bar that was me andrew ryan on my holidays.

news and much more new co-worker in farmhill house m y name is markus hasebrink and i am 19 years old i live with my two brothers my parents my grandparents as well as my dog on an old farm in hamm nordrhein-westfalen germany besides school i m a passionate athlete and active in more than one sports club until two years ago i was acting voluntary as an altar server other than that i spend my free time preferably with my family and friends furthermore i am interested in history and i enjoy reading and cultural travelling my decision to become a volunteer came along after i attained my a-level as far as i am concerned every human being occupies a certain responsibility for other people in their environment i consider myself even more sensitive towards that duty as i grew up in a wealthy community so i was privileged compared to many people in this world i was already looking at information for a voluntary service while my mother s cousin gave me the advice to study your website as he also gained a lot of experience in a organisation which is similar to camphill the aspect of living and working together with people who have special needs impressed me deeply i think in the ordinary world there are not many organisations or people who really try to treat everyone the same furthermore greenacres is a very special community for me because it s location in the city offers the residents a range of other social contacts in working or everyday life i think i was convinced that the camphill experience would give me the possibility and chance to grow up moreover social treatments would enable me to get to know the irish culture and especially the long history of dublin summer outings acess our webpage www.camphill.ie/greenacres have a look in our craft work
