august 20th 2010 term 3 week 5 b oa mb e e phone 6653 1107 e-mail boambee-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au dear parents and caregivers big bash preparations for the big bash are certainly gaining momentum with some very exciting performances developing tickets for this `once in a life time production go on sale next monday the 23rd of august performance options are tuesday 14th september ­ 7.30pm thursday 16th september ­ 11.00am friday 17th september ­ 7.30pm there have been a number of inquiries about the involvement of students in the whole production all children are involved in their class performance and will be required to stay for the finale the anticipated length of the show is one hour ten minutes parents with younger siblings are encouraged to take advantage of the thursday matinee performance a professional media company will video the production the reasons behind this decision have come from many years of experience where performances have often been distracted by the continual movement of parents and the clicking of cameras in addition to this it is essential to keep the aisles free of people as students will use these entry points during the performance we ask that parents respect this request and appreciate your understanding of the reasoning behind this decision a reminder that buses will operate from east boambee community hall carpark 6.40pm and returning after 9.15pm and ayreshire park carpark 6.40pm and returning after 9.15pm please take advantage of this fantastic free service sponsored by the p&c bullet in fax 6658 2543 bps online www.boambee-p.schools.nsw.edu.au hands on science in stage 3 currently stage 3 students are engaged in hands-on science experiments these experiments involve theory hypothesising and testing last week the challenge was to design and make a hot air balloon `it was so much fun `achievement through effort a proud member of the bongil bongil community of schools we need to modify our hot air balloons to make them fly wet and wild over the past 3 weeks 5/6t has participated in a competition run by the wetlands environmental education centre in the hunter valley the competition is for students in stages 2 3 and 4 and was created for students to learn about australian wetlands and the plants and animals that depend on them for survival students received a set of 24 jumbled clues each week and must sort the clues to identify four mystery plants insects birds or animals research and teamwork are the key features of the competition over 50 schools with up to 3 teams from each school participated in this session boambee budgies finished on 136 points boambee brolga s on 129 points and boambee butterflies on 125 points the winning team finished on 204 points so our scores were very admirable the students really enjoyed this activity and we will be competing in the next session beginning in october the class will receive a lovely participation certificate from the wetlands centre kim townsend year 5/6 teacher classrooms care project congratulations to 3/4p 4/5f and 5/6t for completing the classrooms care project each of these classes read 100 books and scholastic will now donate up to 300 books to children in need due to their efforts each of these classes will

receive a certificate of participation and thanks from scholastic australia and their partners in this project kim townsend book club coordinator national recognition for sas staff public schools are full of talented people all working to achieve the best education and welfare outcomes for students perhaps the unsung heroes of any school staff are the team of support people that surround principals and teachers i am referring to the administration staff in the office and library general assistants who work to maintain school grounds and teacher s aids in classrooms this team of people are vital to effective management and operation in schools the support team at boambee is made up of an exceptional group of people who work professionally and proudly for the students and teachers in the school congratulations to all the boambee sas staff and thank you for the wonderful work you do each day thank you to our sas staff for the fabulous contribution to our school 2 new smartboard for 5/6t next friday another smartboard will be installed in 5/6t this will add a fantastic educational tool for students and teachers in this class mrs townsend and the students are very excited about having this new technology in their room interactive technology brings another dimension to learning opportunities for students and teachers professional learning to develop skills in using interactive whiteboards is ongoing for the teachers at boambee visiting performers brainstorm production presents sticks stones at boambee public school on monday 13 september k-6 at 9.30am cost is $4 per student toby is loud rude and aggro he s always in trouble then he meets joe joe teaches toby that there are alternatives to fighting ­ that conflict and violence can be turned into cooperation and friendship this show combines juggling singing and lots of laughs to entertain as well as educate and assist in creating a safe harmonious environment for our students permission notes will be sent home today please return with money by friday 3 september mid north coast athletics congratulations to all the students who competed in the toormina district athletics carnival last thursday the spirit in which the students participated showed great sportsmanship and school pride the relay events were very exciting to watch with boambee teams achieving great results it was a photo finish for the senior girl s event with four teams crossing the line together twenty six students have represented boambee school and the mid north coast carnival today bulletin our sas staff are nicholas croak anne nelson richard shaw mel forbes cheree dines jo wells sandra frankland absent from photos were jason pickering helen banks and carol jones

bongil bongil gats ecology day on tuesday emma lowe lachlan harris aimee donaldson and remi ferguson were invited to attend an ecology gats with the bongil bongil community of schools the day was hosted by mr cheers from sawtell ps it was a wonderful day said remi we started at sawtell caravan park walked to bongil bongil national park through a litorial rainforest and then to boambee beach we had to write down the location coordinates altitude time weather and the animals and plants that were common around the area we were supplied with butterfly nets magnifying glasses and binoculars what i liked about it most was feeling like a real ecologist said remi the students would like to say thank you to mr cheers and mr higgins from sawtell for organising the day and also to mrs ferguson and mrs donaldson for dropping them off and returning them to school 3 enrol now for kindergarten 2011 2011 kindergarten orientation program bulletin the dates have been set and activities organised for our kindergarten orientation program to take place early term 4 invitations to our prospective kindergarten students will be sent home later this term if you intend enrolling your child for kinder in 2011 at boambee public school or know of someone else who may be enrolling please ensure that they contact the school office ph 66 531107 so as not to miss out on this valuable experience and introduction to `big school assembly class awards ashton reid jasmine siebert mia-rose eather clair crampton 1b/m bradley clancy macey gray zachary watson oliver walker 2g sam wilson tamia monk 2l aoibha doyle jaydyn hoskins 3m jacob millar coby mcdonald 3/4p sam crampton joel schweikert 4j bronte ennis brodie gray 4/5f adam coombes jade turner 5/6h hudson kacsics adam pickup 5/6t tylah semenikow ryan portelli 3m won the harvey award 2l won the tidy classroom and 5/6h won the environmental award congratulations kd/g
