ml king day january 21 the flint public library began its commemoration of dr martin luther king jr in 1985 before it became a national holiday in 1986 it began as a tea and has evolved into one of the community s largest celebrations of the king holiday ml king charles moore monday january 21 2013 library will be open 9am to 6pm mlk day children s drop-in craft january 21 1-3pm children and families make a hand and heart craft to celebrate peace and brotherhood mlk day community celebration 2pm speaker tendaji ganges executive director office of educational opportunity initiatives university of michigan-flint master of ceremonies david mcghee secretary flint district library board musical guest venus pope pianist derenda collins i have a dream speech presentation and inspirational performance gamma delta kudos and kappa leadership connie clapp kudos advisor john rhymes coach and mentor for kudos and kappa league personal needs donations will be accepted at the flint public library lobby box from january 7 until january 31 2013 for the martin luther king jr national day of service january 21 2013 the donations will be given to the north end soup kitchen immediately following continue the celebration next door at the flint institute of arts fia 4-6pm · reception in isabel hall · galleries are open and free to view · listen to the music of eric majied mr majestic vibraphone · inspirational performance by the gamma delta kudos and the kappa leadership league 4pm · at the fia art school martin luther king family craft activity 4-6 p.m martin luther king s dream of peace and messages of love and acceptance still inspires us today create and display your own peace and love pinwheels to celebrate dr king s legacy free admission january february 2013 january february 2013 p.3

orlando j roberts concerts concert series · maurice davis king of the party blues sunday january 20 4pm · mama sol tha n.u.t.s sunday february 17 4pm for 2013 the orlando j roberts winter concert series starts with an old favorite and then expands in new directions with styles and artists we have never brought you before in january we present flint s own maurice davis king of the party blues band with his unique take on classic blues maurice davis will be performing on sunday january 20th at 4pm in february flint native mama sol tha n.u.t.s will bring their socially aware neo-soul hip hop to our stage mama sol has allowed her positive vibe and hope filled messages to be spread through her music they will be performing on sunday february 17th at 4pm it s sure to be an uplifting and fun concert march is both women s history month and irish-american history month and our march show pays tribute to both the moxie strings is the electrifying combination of fiddler diana ladio and electric cellist alison lynn with their feel-good melodies and foot-stomping rock-influenced rhythms these young women have put a fresh enticing spin on celtic and americana music on sunday march 24th at 4pm they will bring their ear-catching and dance-worthy sounds to the flint public library in april we are proud to present the first rockabilly act in our winter concert series history delilah dewylde and the lost boys mix their own self-penned songs with vintage country/honky tonk hits rockabilly favorites and surf gems by such artists as hank williams sr johnny cash wanda jackson buck owens gene vincent and dick dale put on your dancing shoes and join us for a rousing good time on sunday april 28th at 4pm teens public affairs karegnondi water authority issues tuesday january 15 room 205 6pm genesee county drain commissioner jeff wright will present information on the karegnondi water authority kwa and what it means for us each time we turn on our water for drinking bathing irrigation etc for years flint has received its drinking water from detroit kwa consists of genesee county drain commissioner lapeer county drain commissioner lapeer city sanilac county drain commissioner and the city of flint the purpose of the authority is to provide and distribute raw water to the region of the state of michigan commonly referred to as the i-69 corridor hear about the current update concerning the plans for a water pipeline from lake huron to genesee county michigan s pipeline for tomorrow s water the presentation will be followed by a q&a session update on building flint s master plan reading room tuesday january 22 5:30pm with mayor dayne walling and chief planning officer megan hunter the late dr orlando j roberts was a founding member of the flint district library board and served from 1999-2005 making flint a safer city tuesday february 12 5:30pm with flint police chief alvern lock and others p 6 flint public library
