boys winning rugby team pb/bop intermediate rubgy tournament boys on friday the 6th of august the school 1st xv rugby team travelled to blake park to compete in the pb/bop champs we started off the day very slow and only beat rotorua 5 0 we picked up our game significantly and beat whakatane kaitao and gisborne comfortably only conceding seven points in these three games in the other pool kawerau won with taupo in second this meant we played taupo in what turned out us killing them with a score of 38 5 this was the first semi final kawerau went down to gisborne in the second semi final leaving us to hopefully repeat our pool play score with them unfortunately it didn t turn out like this gisborne scored early leaving us to fight back and we ended up winning 15 10 unlike our pool game where we beat them 30 7 the day was really cool and we left blake park with smiles on our faces and medals around our necks luke robinson room 19 girls on friday 6th august the tauranga intermediate girls rugby team travelled by bus to blake park for 10 a-side rugby tournament the first games commenced at 9am and there were a total of 10 teams involved the tournament went until 2.30pm finishing with the girls finals overall the gisborne girls won against te puke in the finals the games were 28 minutes long 13 minutes each way and 2 minute half times the winners received medals at the prizegiving tauranga gilrs came back to school at tghe end of the tournament with a placing of 3rd sh vaughan ririnui rm 11 [2]

pb/bop basketball tournament boys bullets game against gisborne easily and then we went on to beat otumoetai we had a close game against kaitao but went through to play rotorua in the final winning 19-11 tis bullets the year 8 boys basketball team yes we were the tournament winners for went to rotorua on friday the 13th of the second time in a row august to compete in the bp/bop basketball tournament we won our first aaron fredheim rm 39 winning bullets basketball team basketball boys mavericks the year for the mavericks has been a challenge to blend raw talent into a functioning team our first hurdle was to accept the fact we were playing in the mixed y7/8 grade with most of the teams being y8s we have improved so much over the season and this has shown in the scorelines in the last 4/5 games our last game against bc was so close with us losing by just 2 points the last time we played them we lost to them by over 25 points one referee came up to the team after the game and commented that it was the best game of basketball he had been involved with for a long time a remark i felt very proud to hear our recent tournament in rotorua against most bop poverty bay intermediates had us go through pool play with hardly a point being scored against us we met rotorua in the finals and were just beaten in the last 30 seconds a very good result indeed our practices are now taking shape on the court and providing we stay together as a team for the 2011 season we will be a formidable team to beat warrern macdonald coach [3]

pb/bop table tennis/badminton tournament a team of 4 badminton players and 4 table tennis players travelled to gisborne on august 19th to compete in the intermediate tournament run by ilminster intermediate school on friday 20th august four of the boys had a fabulous experience being billeted with max bramwell whose dad is an olympic gold medalist in kayaking grant bramwell the next day we all found the competition pretty tough in both badminton and table tennis ilminster intermediate were too strong again and won both the events our teams placed 4th in both competitions alex revington rm 18 played well in table tennis winning 5 of his 7 singles matches in the no 1 position this year we had a relatively `young team so next year with our new gym we will have every opportunity to be in training and improve our rankings back row dylan down hetet rm 16 ryan martin rm 6 jordan ross rm 30 naomi stewart rm 36 front row reuben white rm 4 jamie oakley rm 30 luke cairns-nelson rm 30 alex revington rm 18 if you would like to receive a copy of this newsletter electronicaly via email please contact sabrina jackson at sabrinaj@tauranga-int.school.nz to be included on a mailing list [4]

bop gymnastics competition on tuesday 17 august 4 students from t.i.s went to the bop gymsport regional competition held at argos gym entry was by invitation only students who had performed well at our local tauranga gymnastics earlier this year were chosen leah nicholas rm 42 jody pinkerton rm 41 jake raybould rm 5 and adam herbert rm 19 all competed on the day jake and adam finished 5th equal in the mens artistic division which involves a floor exercise mat exercise and a vault jody placed 6th in the womens open division good luck to these gymnasts at the aims games the main ingredient in stardom is the rest of the team source unknown bop squash intermediate champs last tuesday a team of 8 players from our school travelled to te puke to compete in the bop intermediate squash champs this year we have a particularly strong group of year 7 boys in alex revington rm 18 c1 and jamie oakley rm 7 c2 both these boys made the grand final with alex being the championship winner this is especially good news with the nzct aims games only 2 weeks away congratulations also to olivia mconie rm 30 who won the girls division 2 draw thank you also to parents lynette revington and lisa mconie who helped with transport and supervision on the day greerton amateur athletic club pemberton park fraser street tauranga athlete registration dates to be held at the club rooms pemberton park fraser street monday 20th september 5:30 7pm sunday 10th october 3 5pm we require your child s proof of age so please bring a copy of one of the following for our file birth certificate passport plunket book first club night monday 11th october 2010 for further information please see our website www.greertonathletics.co.nz all sporting opportunities are published in the daily notices it is vital that your students collect notices from the sports office if they are interested in participating [5]
