itq level 2 introduction you have automatically been registered for the level 2 itq units that contain the learning modules of this booklet you must decide which units you are going to attempt as part of your award certificate or diploma qualification complete the exercises and use the marking engine you may find that you have already completed some of these exercises as part of the level 1 itq qualification if this is the case then those exercises have already been registered as completed and you do not need to do them again files for most questions you will require a set of exercise files these files have been provided in the cms with the course and you should complete them by following the instructions in this booklet marking engine the level 2 marking engine is also supplied with this course and your teacher will tell you were to find it on your computer system when you have completed an exercise you should select that exercise from the marking engine and mark the file you have completed for that exercise when there is no file select the exercise from the marking engine and follow the instructions coursework assignments for each module you are also expected to undertake some coursework assignments that show you can apply your it skills at the end of each module there is a section which tells you what coursework is required and what you need to do 4

itq level 2 it user fundamentals task 1 logging on step 1 logon to your computer system you will need to know your username and password to do this now change your password and use the marking engine to check the strength of your new password.1 once you have succeeded in creating a password which is strong enough log off the computer system and then log back on using your new password step 2 step 3 1 your password should contain numbers and letters and be between 6 and 12 characters long 6

itq level 2 task 4 menus here is a screen shot of notepad in windows vista answer the following questions and enter you answers into the marking engine q1 what are the menu options in the screenshot now open up the application notepad on your computer it is normally under accessories.2 now answer the following questions q2 a b which menu is the select all option3 under what is the keyboard shortcut for this use the sign to indicate when keys are to be held down 2 3 you may have to ask your teacher where to find this on your desktop or start menu select all will select all the text in a document and can be very useful 9

itq level 2 task 5 copying files step 1 step 2 in the area where you save your work create a folder called level 2 ict.4 now download the level 2 folder exercises into the folder you have just created your teacher will tell you where to find this folder or you can locate it in the cms you should put in here all the folders and files which relate to the exercises for this course look at the folder exercises and make sure you can see the four sub-folders i it user fundamentals ii word processing software iii presentation software and iv spreadsheet software in these folders are the files you will need for the rest of the course for example you will require the file hauntedhouse.txt for the next exercise which is in the it user fundamentals sub-folder now create a new folder in level 2 ict and name it assignments here you can store examples of applied ict work for other subjects where you use the skills you learn during the course now use the marking engine to check you have copied the files and created the folders correctly before submitting your assignments you will need to change the name of the assignments folder to match your unique candidate number it should begin ll e.g ll-01234 step 3 step 4 step 5 step 6 4 make sure you type this correctly with capital letters and spaces where required 10

itq level 2 task 7 folder structures step 1 find a folder anywhere on your network or computer that contains at least 5 files and at least 1 subfolder make a note of the path of the folder you have chosen e.g v school geography in windows explorer right click on the folder you found in step 1 and select properties the size of the folder is here step 2 make a note of the size of your folder ­ don t forget to write down the units kb mb gb etc step 3 using other information from the same properties dialogue write down a the number of files in the folder and b the number of folders step 4 now check your answers using the marking engine 12
