in a nutshell the stoas degree bachelor in education guarantees graduates to be qualified teachers or knowledge managers in the land-based and nature-based sector to get this bachelor degree students have to complete 16 professional situations 240 ects these 16 include 10 obligatory professional situations and 6 elective ones however students also have the possibility to prove they already achieved the required competencies for one or more of the obligatory professional situations in earlier training or work experience assessment and achieving competencies to be successful in professional situations the professional situations are the central starting point in this training each professional situation contains a number of competencies a competency is an integrated whole of knowledge attitude and skills for each professional situation the student is required to `proof that he can function adequately in it what does this mean for you as a student a professional situation is completed with an assessment an assessment can consist of several parts and `proofs of competencies which you have accumulated in a certain period this is described in an assessment plan which you can use as a guide for studying and for gathering the required proofs after completing the assessment for a professional situation successfully you obtain credits ects gathering proofs is done in two ways learning on the job and practice learning loj this means that you gather proofs from the actual functioning in the professional situation in your work place apprenticeship work experience place or in a simulated environment supportive education se se is organized study time aimed at gaining knowledge and skills it consists of lessons supplemented with processing assignments and homework supportive education se can deliver direct proof but can also be used as knowledge and skills gained to gather proof in learning on the job and practice learning loj 4 stoas university of applied sciences and teacher education
