survival guide 2010/11 transportation bus services an extensive bus network dublin bus ­ www.dublinbus.ie serves dublin and its environs services are fairly reliable a journey from the ucd campus to dublin city centre takes approximately 20 minutes rcsi students in the 1st and 2nd years junior cycle are based in the st stephen s green campus which is within walking distance from mercer court dart luas dart dublin area rapid transit is the local train service that runs along the coast of dublin from malahide and howth southwards as far as greystones co wicklow while the luas is like the lrt but only has two lines running along the north and south side of dublin both of them are quick ways of getting out to greater dublin and its surroundings the luas green line can bring you to the dundrum shopping complex too one of the major shopping centres around here cycling to the faculty and to town is becoming increasingly popular amongst students bicycles you can get your bike from argos it s a pretty convenient departmental store the prices in argos are usually pretty reasonable 150 either that or you can get second hand bicycles there are special cycling lanes in certain stretches of the city you can also get bikes from camden street as there are a few bike shops around there as well do get a good lock there have been instances where bikes were damaged or stolen buy a good lock always make dua walking can be very convenient and pleasant in ireland if the weather permits unfortunately the weather is often erratic and the cold winds can deter the most determined of walkers however for other county as galwaynuig corkucg bus service are vastly used as dubliners as well

survival guide 2010/11 bank grocerries most students have accounts with aib bank bank of ireland boi and ulster bank most rcsi students use the grafton street or lower baggot street branch of aib and the college green branch of the boi ucd students can do their banking at aib which is on campus for students wishing to open a bank account you should bring along your passport a letter from your university confirming you are a student your student identification card and some money usually a minimum amount is required some of the banks give out free gifts dissection kits or stethoscope or free air tickets to the first year students when they open an account note it takes approximately 1 day to start an account it takes about 7 14 days for a bank draft to be cleared groceries asian groceries the asia market on drury street and the oriental emporium jervis street and south great george s street are well stocked with asian produce ranging from indian spices to japanese ingredients and frozen dim sum for those who cannot get used to the easy cook/long grain rice sold in normal grocery stores here you can get thai fragrant jasmine rice in the asia market and oriental emporium.

survival guide 2010/11 mosque mosque mosque prayer room there are 2 main mosques the biggest mosque in dublin is the clonskeagh mosque it is situated in clonskeagh which is 5-10 minutes away from belfield ucd ucd muslims students who are staying on campus can get their halal chicken or meat at this mosque and restaurant the other mosque called dublin mosque is situated along south circular road dublin 8 you can also get halal chicken and meat here each university has prayer rooms ucd s prayer room is situated in the health science building belfield and rcsi s prayer room is in the student basement direction of qiblat for dublin and galway the kiblat is at south east 1140 for cork kiblat is at 1110 for belfast kiblat is at 1160 solat timetable solat timetable can be obtained at the nearest mosque and for free.
