7 shutterbug about the everglades chapter of psa and the annual chapters showcase www.everglades.spsa.org by carol-ann rogus fpsa if you make the decision to join the photographic society of america psa it is a natural to join the everglades chapter which is the local affiliate of the society first year membership is free and the $8 annual membership fee after that is well worth it you will receive all notices about chapter events and get a slight discount at each of the three chapter luncheons that we hold each year these generally are in november january and march last november we had a huge workshop with more than ten table top set-ups for guests to learn about and shoot they ranged from mylar under black light tri-color arrangements smoke water droplets to classic displays flowers under water and mylar reflections of live flowers in sunlight we also had a rather attractive model in the recent past we have enjoyed presentations from an expert nature photographer from maine a sports photographer from massachusetts and a professional photojournalist from georgia the chapter also offers local field trips a great opportunity to meet folks from other area clubs and members are invited to contribute pictures to our member gallery on the chapter website www.evergladespsa.org another privilege of membership is the invitation to participate in the psa chapters showcase for those of you not familiar this annual event is a competition among the psa chapters across the united states each chapter collects entries from its membership then holds a judging to select ten pictures from each of ten members these are then sent to the host chapter separated and judged individually without identification of affiliation scores for each chapter are then cumulated and those chapters with the highest scores are declared first second and third place winners judges also select the individual best in chapter and best in show recipients the more entrants we have to choose from at this end the better our chances judging for this year s competition will be in late march so it is time for all chapter members to email four entries to me crogus@bellsouth.net please include diverse subjects because we sure do not want to send a lot of bird pictures or flower pictures etc variety here is a good thing also for those of you who have entered and been included before please exclude pictures that were accepted in previous showcases please use the standard 72dpi 1024 max horizontal pixels and 768 maximum vertical pixels and include your full name with any psa honors and identify each picture with its title if you have any questions about psa or the everglades chapter please fell free to contact either michael rosenbaum our chair polyandry@comcast.com or me as vice chair 7
