dear parents i am looking forward to a fun and successful year my philosophy is simple i try my best to treat each child the way i would want someone to treat my child i want each student to learn and feel loved this will be my fifth year at pces i have a bachelor of arts in sociology and criminal justice from mercer university a certification in education degree from the university of west georgia and a masters in media and technology from georgia southern university each day the children will work in a variety of settings sometimes the children will work in small groups and sometimes they will work as a whole class we will spend quality time on reading instruction math writing phonics and grammar will also be emphasized finally social studies and science will be integrated into our school day homework assignments are designed to review and reinforce skills taught in the classroom the assignments should be brief and the children should be able to complete most of them with minimal help homework will be assigned daily and i will collect and check the assignments as they are received the students will also receive a spelling list for the week spelling tests will be on friday the most important homework is to read with your child every night the agendas will contain notes and school correspondence the children will be working on following the rules for our classroom and school we want a fun but orderly classroom environment the focus will be on positive behaviors such as good manners good self-control being an active listener etc the children displaying positive behaviors are rewarded if the children break the school or class rulesthe consequences are as follows warning time-out write a behavior plan time-out in another location write a behavior plan and call home go to the office please check your child s daily folder for correspondence to monitor his or her behavior many parents desire to volunteer if you would like to volunteer to help in our classroom in any way please let me know i will contact you and we can set up your time to volunteer if you normally volunteer for ar with students we do not utilize parents in this capacity because students can test independently parents who are unable to volunteer during the school day are also needed for at home jobs such as helping with class materials sending supplies making phone calls etc parent volunteers are very valuable to our class and school environment parents are also welcome to join us for lunch please let us know that you are coming by 9:00 a.m and we can make your lunch reservation conferences are a great way to build the home-school connection i usually offer conferences at midterm and report card times i am available at other times if you need to speak with me regarding any questions or concerns please note that conferences cannot be scheduled during our valuable instruction time we would need to meet during my planning time or after 2:30 please do not hesitate to call write or come by if you have any questions or concerns at any time during the year about any topic such as grades assignments discipline procedures etc our school phone number is 770 631-3250 my e-mail address is moore.sharon@fcboe.org you may also write a note and put it in the agenda thanks for your help and support i know this will be a wonderful year sincerely sharon moore
