bryanston high school newsletter 8 of 2012 27th september bryanston.com https facebook.com/bryanstonhighschool @bryanston_high dear parents the time has come to inform you all that i have decided to retire at the end of the current school year i have spent 35 fantastic years in state education of which 17 were as principal i have been principal at bryanston high for 12 years and 8 months it has been an amazing rollercoaster ride of many successes and many challenges i am greatly indebted and humbled by all the support parents students and staff have given me over the years the fundamental challenge i have had over the years is to maintain and even raise all standards at the school but at the same time to transform the school according to the massive political legal and constitutional changes that have happened over the last 20 years in our country often i have had the two opposing forces at loggerheads and the staff and i caught in the middle at other times i have been over-whelmed by the warmth and understanding displayed by parents and students to build a new educational system and to support the school in these necessary changes in our country i would like to think that we have achieved both goals in the school over the years and that the foundations are set for a very successful future for the school school and to the many lives i have touched it has always fascinated me how at the one end i am the disciplinarian demanding the best of behaviour and morals and at the other a purveyor of hope and inspiration in difficult times possibly i have softened over the years as i have seen so many individuals and families do trivial things or experience horrible crises that i have taken on a involvement and positive vibe that comes out of the school i would like to think i have been the school s biggest and most consistent supporter at all these events the future of the school is in very good hands our newly elected governing body is one of the best we have ever had the leadership of mr kennedy is superb we have just been through the process of appointing a new deputy and the governing body was outstanding and very professional in implementing the process and choosing the correct candidate i leave an executive of the school who are all professional and skilled and are more than capable of taking the school to the next level there will be staff changes in the next few months as people reevaluate their roles and positions but the bryanston blue flame will continue to burn strongly and the bryanston momentum will continue to march on into a grand future the grade 11s are going to be fantastic matrics next year all the other grades show huge potential i would imagine the appointment of a new principal will take place before the end of the year and that decision is in the very capable hands of mr kennedy and his team i humbly thank everyone for their support and good wishes bryanston high is a very special home to me and saying goodbye will be very difficult thank you dave robinson the end of an era more healing role but others then say that the discipline is falling trying to find the correct balance over the years has been difficult when you think you have found the balance some unexpected crisis hits the school in spite of all preventative strategies and we start all over again it took me years to learn that i as i look back over the years and think of must not plan to do anything on a monday all the incredible people i have worked morning because we are always in crisis with taught or have met i am very mode grateful for the opportunity given to me to be the principal of such a dynamic school i am grateful for the all the wonderful it is very difficult to reflect on one s own times i have spent next to the sports-field performance in such a multi-faceted job or watching amazing productions in the but i hope i have added value to the hall or experiencing the constant

we re proud of our culture of payment 3 september 2012 zelda venter couple face losing houses over unpaid school fees the parents of a pretoria boys high pupil could lose two of their properties for allegedly refusing to pay their son s outstanding school fees totaling almost r100,000 it was stated in papers before the pretoria high court that the parents [who cannot be identified to protect their son had not paid his school fees for the past three years the court was told that the father a city businessman who owned a property in an affluent suburb in the east of pretoria and another in mamelodi refused to pay the school fees it is claimed that the father in a very aggressive tone accused the school and its lawyers of being racist and added that the government should pay the school fees not him according to the court papers he also threatened that he will persist in enrolling his three children at the school and that he is not going to pay one cent towards their schooling judge peter mabuse ordered that the two properties registered in the name of the couple had to be sold on execution to recover the outstanding fees he suspended the order on condition that the couple make monthly payments of r10,000 to the school starting this month the chairman of the school s governing body sgb harry todd said the school was forced to turn to the court as the parents had not paid school fees for 2009 2010 and 2011 this was in spite of the lower court earlier granting three judgments ordering the parents to pay up a warrant was also issued to attach the couple s assets so that they could be sold on execution if they did not pay the parents after the first judgment indicated that they would defend the action but there were no opposing papers in the high court application the sheriff tried to serve the couple with the warrant but he had no success after the father s outburst the sheriff was told to sell the assets on execution the sheriff also had no success in this regard as he could not find any assets the sheriff said that when he arrived at the premises the father denied that the assets listed on the inventory were ever on the premises it was stated that the father was not being candid and truthful and that he was attempting to mislead the [school in such a manner as to prohibit it from collecting the outstanding money due to it when the sheriff attempted to serve the warrant on the other properties belonging to the family he got the run-around the family members who lived in the residences listed as belonging to the couple told the sheriff that the couple no longer lived there they pointed the sheriff to other addresses but the family could not be found there either if you have photos of school-related events or your own sporting cultural or academic achievements bring them to school on a flashdrive dvd bluetooth-enabled cellphone or sd card and take them to mr scott in the it lab he will help you upload them for us to share on facebook or in the next news letter.
