mechanical engineering tu/e a good choice high quality of education and research leading position in international university rankings excellent student facilities international contacts with leading universities eindhoven is a modern student city region of eindhoven technology hotspot in the netherlands merih cibis i applied for a tu/e master s program along with three friends from middle east technical university ankara eindhoven appealed to us because there is no language barrier we can communicate well in english and have a sense that the netherlands is fairly sympathetic to foreigners moreover tu/e has a good reputation and the research field fits in well with what we were doing at university in turkey my focus is thermo-fluid engineering the academic climate at tu/e really appeals to me certainly compared with turkey where many students get the same lectures at the same time and written examinations tend to be the order of the day here there are fewer students per lecturer and the laboratories are good lecturers encourage you and give you the freedom to find things out for yourself in the lab that s when real learning takes place even the oral examinations that round off the subjects are educational i have not yet been on a work placement but have been in touch with kema in arnhem if i do go there i will miss eindhoven it is relaxed here and i also feel safe i share my student accommodation with eight international students that all study at tu/e we have all become good friends with each other graduation tracks in the mechanical engineering master s program you immediately choose one of the department s five tracks as soon as you register for the program · computational and experimental mechanics the design of products based on the materials of which they are made and the design of the process conditions that determine the product characteristics · dynamic systems design you will focus on predicting and influencing motion or vibration in the operation of equipment and dynamical systems such as machines wafer steppers copiers mri scanners products cars and fabricating systems · thermo fluids engineering focuses on designing and optimizing mechanics of gas and fluid flows in installations such as solar panels central heating boilers and heat exchangers taking into account desired flow behavior heating transport and the use of sustainable energy systems · automotive engineering science this involves vehicles and their drive systems as well as passive and active safety research is also carried out into the development of increasingly cleaner quieter and more economical engines · micro and nanotechnology focuses on the design of products processes and systems at minimum scale most of the second year of this program you will be carrying out your own innovative research in one of these tracks this is possible at the university or at a company or research institute internship opportunities during the internship that you follow in the first year of the master s program you will be able to put what you have learned up till then into practice and to see for yourself how mechanical engineering works in daily professional practice tu/e has close working relationships with many high-tech companies and institutes in the eindhoven region such as philips asml océ and paccar daf a number of professors are affiliated partly to the department and partly to businesses this strengthens the contacts between the university and the businesses research profile of the department the five graduation tracks mentioned earlier represent the different focal research areas of the mechanical engineering department the department has an international reputation in the research field and participates in leading national research schools in addition the department participates in research institutes like the dutch polymer institute dpi embedded systems institute esi and materials innovation institute m2i furthermore the department has an excellent research assessment carried out by the quality assurance netherlands universities qanu requirements for admission there are a number of general requirements for admission to this master s degree or a project leader some of them start up their own company for others the research in the department is so interesting that they decide to carry out their own doctoral research but of course your career choice is not limited to the track that you opted for during your master s program the program is designed to ensure that you will also be able to specialize in other areas and to enable you to continue your development on a broad basis why study mechanical engineering in eindhoven are you interested in the track automotive engineering science or in the micro and nanotechnology track as a
