leading universities eindhoven is a modern student city region of eindhoven technology hotspot in the netherlands pim vullers i m doing my graduation project at the université du luxembourg a fairly recent university with different computer science courses during my information security technology master s a degree jointly organized by the university of twente radboud university and tu/e i followed lectures in enschede nijmegen and eindhoven so i got used to plenty of traveling i m in a special corner of computer science the foreign choices are by no means limited but i am quite happy in luxemburg the work is enjoyable and the group where i am working is also convivial there is a real international make-up to the people you find around here of those graduates i know only one is a native luxemburger my supervisor is a dutch professor who worked at tu/e before coming here i live in a student house managed by the university the city is compact and the university is growing right now a new building is being erected on the campus when i have finished my degree i will be taking a doctorate in nijmegen researching the successor to the current public transport chip pas after that i ll see what comes my way ­ perhaps enter the world of business or the world of research verification of security protocols security in organizations and network security these courses are given in eindhoven twente or nijmegen that means you will have to travel an average of one day a week to one of the other two locations as well as the above courses you also have to choose three courses from a list of eight specialized information security courses internship opportunities the elective part of the track can in some cases involve an external internship of a maximum of 15 ects research profile of the department the design of innovative software and the art of mathematical modeling are key enablers for technological and industrial progress the computer science group of the mathematics and computer science department has a strong focus on design the research is concentrated on four areas of expertise specification and verification information systems algorithms and visualization and software and systems engineering research topics within the mathematics group include the fundamental aspects of security and cryptography requirements for admission there are a number of general requirements for admission to master s degree programs and special master s tracks · you must have a relevant bachelor s degree or equivalent based on a program of sufficient academic level and quality to enable you to complete the tu/e master s degree program or special master s track to which you wish to be admitted · you must be able to demonstrate sufficient command of the language in which the program or track is taught all tu/e master s degree programs and special master s tracks are taught in english · to prove sufficient command of the english language you should submit an for a quarter of the program is the crowning achievement of your education you can opt to carry out this project on an in-company basis but you can also make a contribution to scientific research in one of the two aspects mathematics or computer science you can choose from a wide variety of subjects and approaches graduated and then as a graduate of this special master s track you will combine a scientific attitude with an engineering approach you will have learned to work independently to reflect to analyze critically and to generate new ideas in addition you will have an application-oriented working approach with the ability to work systematically and methodically in a multidisciplinary environment as a master of science in information security technology you will be able to take part in the design of new security systems or the evaluation of existing systems you will also be able to define the relevant security requirements for an application and to select the right techniques to address these issues you can get involved in cryptographic primitives security protocols data storage communication or information security management you could work as an internal or external consultant focusing on the security of information systems and networks or on the security policies of a company or an organization working on the security of information systems and the related strategies you will be able to find employment in a wide range of organizations these can include research laboratories and scientific institutes carrying out applied r&d in industry the financial world government agencies and consultancies.
