contacts with leading universities eindhoven is a modern student city region of eindhoven technology hotspot in the netherlands pu li i took my bachelor s at zhejiang university in china in the direction of electrical and information engineering the future interests me most and i became fascinated by research into optical and telecommunications i d particularly like to contribute to the future of optical communications back in 1965 prof charles kao proposed that fiber optics could be applied as a long-distance telecommunication medium at that time most people didn t believe that nowadays many top researchers are working towards an all optical network which although is far away from commercial use yet i would like to contribute to i chose to go to the netherlands because i d found out that the research in optical communications here at the tu/e department of electrical engineering is the best in the world i had other scholarships offered in europe and hong kong but i decided to go to eindhoven via the brainbridge program besides that the expertise of prof koonen and the high amount and quality of publications in his group made me choose to study the master btt my first traineeship at the group of eco consisted of multicast switching networks for my next traineeship i m going to the polytechnic university in new york to study more on optical package switching networks when i came to the netherlands i found it an exciting country i had travelled in europe but the mentality of the dutch people attracted me i immediately felt at home the high quality of life and the excellent education were plus points as well i m glad that i came here i would like to add that to achieve the most i can i want to constantly update and equip myself with the best qualifications processing ultra-fast optical switching and signal coding the special master s track also contains courses on professional development and two internships your studies are completed by a research project internship opportunities the master s track includes two internships of six and ten weeks one of these should preferably be in another country if you have not yet gained international experience but if you have already done so then you can follow both internships within the university the university can help you to find internship placements at companies or universities in europe or beyond for example in the usa or japan research profile of the departments the special master s track in broadband telecommunication technologies is organized by the departments of electrical engineering mathematics and computer science applied physics chemical engineering and chemistry and industrial engineering innovation sciences a total of thirteen research groups are involved in this master s track the groups that are involved in the special master s track in broadband telecommunication technologies play a key role in prestigious national and international research projects they took the initiative in establishing two european networks of excellence in the field of optical communication systems and photonic integration technology in addition these groups are prominent participants in leading european and national research projects requirements for admission there are a number of general requirements for admission to master s degree programs and special master s tracks · you must have a relevant bachelor s degree or equivalent based on a program of sufficient academic level and quality to enable you to complete the tu/e master s degree program or special master s track to which you wish to be admitted · you must be able to demonstrate sufficient command of the language in which the program or track is taught all tu/e master s degree programs and special master s tracks are taught in english · to prove sufficient command of the english language you should submit an academic ielts or toefl test for the scores or mathematics and computer science applied physics chemical engineering and chemistry and industrial engineering innovation sciences the contents of this track will depend on the profile of the department in which you follow the track within the electrical engineering profile you follow a broadly based program with a certain level of specialization at the end of the program and in the final research project graduation options as a master s student you can work on research projects in one of the following groups · electrical engineering department electro-optical communication opto-electronic devices mixed-signal micro-electronics electromagnetics signal processing systems and electronic systems · mathematics and computer science department coding cryptography and stochastic operations research · applied physics department semiconductor physics and polymer devices · chemical engineering and chemistry department polymer technology and glass ceramics · industrial engineering innovation sciences department innovation sciences alternatively you can carry out your graduation studies through one of these groups at a wide range of companies and universities all over the world graduated and then telecommunication is a very broad field comprising research development and manufacturing of devices equipment and systems design of networks including software it ranges from research in material physics for advanced devices to exploitation-oriented activities like network monitoring and management communication protocols signal routing network protection methods furthermore it covers the development and operation of a broad spectrum of applications as a graduate of the special master s track in broadband telecommunication technologies you will be able to find employment at a very wide range of companies and institutes for example you could find work in telecommunication operators manufacturers of equipment and systems application developers service
