biomedical engineering tu/e a good choice high quality of education and research leading position in international university rankings excellent student facilities international contacts with leading universities eindhoven is a modern student city region of eindhoven technology hotspot in the netherlands jasper levink following my bachelor in biomedical engineering i was able to choose either medical engineering or biomedical engineering easy choice for me i went for the latter because it has intrinsically greater depth in terms of engineering and i don t see myself working in a hospital where the traditional hierarchy does not really appeal to me my special focus is the mri scan because this generates so many separate images we compose a 3d visualization for example so that doctors are not confronted by having to study each individual image we can also focus attention on specific medical issues in this kind of animation or visualization we can indicate the possible presence of a polyp in a particular spot or that the heart does not seem to be functioning as it should in this way you can make the best use of your combined medical and engineering knowledge i m now putting the finishing touches to my graduation project i just have to crack on in the summer heat because i will soon start my new job at philips where i will be involved in electrical shaver development this means i will be leaving the domain of medical engineering although i will certainly need my knowledge at philips we will be trying to model the skin not to enhance it but to find out how we can shave off the hair without damaging the skin too much i would ultimately like to get into engineering management that is where my interest lies innovation and development the program is research-driven and design-oriented although most of the courses have a biomedical and technical orientation and provide a basis for the tracks in the master s degree program it is also possible to choose courses that approach biomedical problems from a different angle for example from an economic ethical or health-science perspective internship opportunities the internship within the master s program provides an introduction to current research projects during your internship you will gain research experience and develop the professionalism and independence you need for your graduation project you will also get an impression of your future career opportunities this internship is in a company or an institute or a research laboratory at another university of course you can also opt to take this requirements for admission internship in another country which is the case there are a number of general requirements for for 80 of the present biomedical engineering admission to master s degree programs and special students all internships take place at a location master s tracks with which your internship tutor maintains close · you must have a relevant bachelor s degree contacts this ensures good supervision and or equivalent based on a program of sufficient support during your internship and a high level academic level and quality to enable you to of academic research complete the tu/e master s degree program or special master s track to which you wish to be admitted research profile of the department · you must be able to demonstrate sufficient medical research diagnostics treatment and command of the language in which the program patient care are no longer conceivable without or track is taught all tu/e master s degree technology just think of the development of new programs and special master s tracks are taught imaging and analytical technologies that allow in english pathological processes to be detected at an early · to prove sufficient command of the english stage right down to molecular level technology is language you should submit an academic ielts just as essential for the culture of autologous bioor toefl test for the scores or exemptions you artificial tissues and organs as for the development can contact the international relations office and use of advanced computer models in diagnostics and intervention planning research within the biomedical engineering department has three focal areas of excellence the first is biomechanics tissue engineering which applies basic principles of mechanics and biology to biomedical problems and equipment biomedical imaging modeling applies methods from mathematics computer science physics electrical engineering and medicine for the image analysis modeling and interpretation of biological systems molecular bioengineering molecular imaging approach issues at the molecular level using knowledge of e.g organic chemistry biochemistry and chemical polymers as well as technological research the department also actively applies these technologies in university hospitals where high-level technological research is carried out io@tue.nl or visit www.tue.nl/masterprograms · there may be additional specific requirements for specific programs or tracks also depending on the nature of your prior education more information visit www.tue.nl/masterprograms cooperation with other universities for this program tu/e works closely with maastricht university um graduation options you will complete a final project in one of the following tracks · molecular bioengineering molecular imaging · biomechanics tissue engineering · biomedical imaging modeling it is also possible to carry out research at the interface of two of these tracks graduated and then as a biomedical engineer you will be able to work in a number of different disciplines within the overall field of biomedical engineering for example as a developer or designer of products or services based on medical technology for trade and industry these could include drug delivery systems or image analysis software however after their master s a lot of biomedical engineers are interested in carrying out doctoral research at a university after which there are extensive career opportunities in industry or at universities it is also possible to follow a program for clinical physicists after your master s although this means that you will have to take specific elective courses during your master s program why study biomedical engineering in eindhoven the master s program in biomedical engineering has been established as a result of the interaction between various departments at tu/e um hospitals and industry this means that many of the professors have practical backgrounds the program is research-driven and as a student your academic training is based on intensive involvement in research.
