pb/bop elite winter tournament netball on friday 30th of july the y8 league 1 and y7 development 1 netball teams travelled to harbourside netball courts for the elite winter tournament the y8 s got off to a great start winning four out from four pool games progressing into the semi finals we versed te puke in a very close game everyone tried their best it wasn t enough to get to the final losing by two points in the semi wasn t great but we picked up our game to clean up taupo and come third overall we also had to clean up breearne s face after she got lucky and a bird had the best shot of the tournament unfortunately the y7 s didnt make the semi but they certainly enjoyed the day and and the tournament experience thanks to the awesome coaches and managers who made the day possible and to the great parents who came and supported us ariana moffatt rm19 emm bain shooting for goal pb/bop elite winter tournament boys football on a sunny friday morning the tauranga intermediate s soccer teams went off to compete in the interschools winter tournament the boys had a mediocre start with a 0-0 draw against te puke intermediate we then played another game close after which turned out to be a good chance to find our groove in this game the boys started off with an early goal which put us into the lead for the first half after the early goal the boys proved powerful and willing for a good match which soon lead to another goal to put the boys two in front the team went out with a bang with a 20 metre out strike the game concluded and we advanced to the semi finals against gisborne intermediate after narrowly losing to the favorites otumoetai intermediate the semi finals were tied up for both teams until the magical minutes of which a great passage of play was made by the royal blue bullets in tauranga intermediate school this play was rewarded by a goal and with 2 minutess left to play gisborne looked as if they had given up but attacked their final attempt on goal and were awarded a penalty of which they netted calmly unfortunately for us we had to battle extra time which only made the suspension worse than before with no goals in that short period of time the clouds above our heads seemed to spell words like they do in the movies they spelt penalty shot out we lost the toss and the gisborne captain choose to strike first the scores were hitched at 3 all after the first five shots so we still had to struggle through sudden death the gisborne team unfortunately made a break through after our many attempts to prevent this the scores ended up to be 8-7 gisborne s way we were gutted as we all knew very well that we were the by far the superior team over them even though we didn t win the boys had a great day and are rearing to go for next year already the team would like to thank the coaches mr.p and mr.c in particular in addition to the other supporters that kept our spirits high jake brown rm 42 [8]
