springston school a 16-20 leeston road springston 7616 p 03-329-5724 f 03-329-5731 e office@springston.school.nz w www.springston.school.nz b springstonschoolnews.blogspot.com august 31 2012 from the principal tn koutou katoa there is much to absorb from the ministry of education announcements yesterday and there certainly will be an impact on our school our hearts go out to the communities of greenpark and burnham who will be dealing with the shock announcement that their schools are earmarked for closure the piece below was written prior to yesterday s announcement building project update last friday members of the board of trustees met with representatives from the ministry of education to discuss the ongoing property needs of the school we were delighted to come out of the meeting with confirmed funding for four yes four new classrooms we are pleased that there is acknowledgment of the growth in our area our architects alan pritchard design have been asked to draw up a 5-year concept plan for the future development of the school including the relocation of the existing adventure playground and provision for a new or extended adventure playground the concept plan will also include lunch eating areas and access to the field as well as targeted space for any further roll growth classrooms ideally the first two classrooms with the new toilet block will still be completed as early as possible in 2013 and our project manager feels that this is still realistic we have set up a google survey on our news blog to gather ideas from our children and the community for inclusion in the concept plan you can record you ideas practical or entirely fanciful seating planting playgrounds an on-site cafe no idea too big or small melbourne conference i will be absent from school for the last two weeks of the term i am joining a group of 60 other canterbury principals travelling to melbourne to attend the trans tasman principal s conference while in melbourne i will also be visiting four schools known for both their creative new teaching and learning spaces and their innovative use of ict in my absence wendy and helen will be in charge if you have any concerns or need assistance with anything please contact helen for junior school matters and wendy for matter relating to the senior school both are released from their teaching responsibilities on thursdays and again on friday mornings they can be contacted through the school office or via email helen.hogarth@springston.school.nz wendy.hamlin@springston.school.nz i hope you all enjoy the last two weeks of the term and the two weeks of spring break i look forward to seeing you all back here in october ng mihi ki a koutou katoa liz weir principal the springston school year 6 jump jam team came 9th in their section at the south island jump jam qualifying round unfortunately this was not enough to qualify for the south island competition in november the team was very committed to practicing their routines and they should be proud of the result they achieved.
