master s programme in theology ma faculty of theology international master s programme the main emphasis of the two-year master s programme in theology in nijmegen is on research on christian belief in contemporary society the tension between universal truth claims within belief systems and the diverse cultural contexts in which they are expressed is the central focus of the programme a broad programme with a choice of profile the programme is broad during your first year you will choose which aspects you wish to focus on during your second year you will specialise and select your profile you can graduate in any subject within your profile as long as you meet the following criteria during the first year you will choose eight modules including at least one from each of the three groups listed below during the second year you choose six modules at least three of which must belong to the group in which you will write your master s thesis you can choose the same subjects as the ones you studied in the first year because the content changes each year in addition you can choose a number of elective subjects groups 1 the literary/historical group which includes the modules exegesis of the old testament exegesis of the new testament church history and spirituality 2 the systematic group which includes the modules philosophy of religion fundamental theology dogmatics and theological ethics 3 the practical/religious studies which includes the modules practical theology liturgy intercultural theology religious studies/theology and gender these topics change every year examples of profiles intercultural theology spirituality and systematic theology within the criteria given above you are free to choose your profile here are three examples · intercultural theology deepening the meaning of the christian faith and tradition in a religiously and culturally diverse globalised world · spirituality a scientific study of the premises history and themes of both historical and contemporary forms of spirituality in the judaeo-christian tradition · systematic theology this profile is concerned with the constructive articulation of the meaning coherence and implications of christian faith within the nijmegen tradition truly international theology in nijmegen has always been a truly international master s programme three quarters of our graduates come
