master s programme in philosophy ma faculty of philosophy international master s programme the art of thinking in contradistinction to regular master s programmes our research master s programme in philosophy emphasizes skills in this programme you will receive a solid thorough training in the art of thinking clear reasoning critical analysis deciphering complex subjects and techniques such as conveying your thoughts accurately as a master s graduate you will be able to make a valuable contribution to the intellectual debate on philosophy in the academic community and in wider social circles spectrum of specializations nijmegen s research master s programme in philosophy is a joint venture with the philosophy department at the university of tilburg together we offer twelve different specializations ­ the largest choice at any european university you can choose between expert supervision in continental analytical and historical approaches to philosophy in a dozen different philosophical research areas including metaphysics social and political philosophy philosophy of mind philosophical anthropology history of philosophy ethics and epistemology excellent research the research programmes at nijmegen s faculty of philosophy have in recent international evaluations received predicates ranging from extremely good to excellent our faculty members enjoy an international reputation which is reflected in their wide international network the faculty of philosophy is also involved in the european science foundation esf and in exchange programmes with a number of foreign universities this allows students to attend international conferences and lectures by guest speakers personal supervisor when entering the programme you will choose one of the twelve areas of specialization and within it a research theme that you would like to explore you will be allocated a personal supervisor ­ an expert in your chosen domain of research ­ who will help you set up your study programme our students have written master s theses on topics as diverse as heidegger and subjectivity the influence of islamic philosophy on 14thcentury christian thought the semantics of attitude reports or tocqueville and the european union.
