language communication ma facultyofarts|international master s programme real language in real-life situations this master s programme covers the different ways in which written en spoken language is used ­ for example to persuade to inform or to exchange ideas because communication and the use of language are so tightly interwoven we take an integrated approach the programme focuses strongly on empirical research you will be studying real language in reallife situations and you will use your observations to develop possible theories you will then test these theories against everyday reality and will discover the richness of both language and communication challenging research environment as a master s student in language and communication you will find yourself in a challenging research environment radboud university nijmegen and tilburg university together offer this master s programme language specialists at radboud university nijmegen and university tilburg have an international reputation these universities have experts in language variation and language diversity language technology sign language intercultural communication persuasive communication optimal communication and the ways in which language can be processed these specialists work closely together with colleagues in the max planck institute for psycholinguistics mpi and the donders institute for brain cognition and behaviour as a result nijmegen can provide you with an exceptional opportunity to explore new avenues of knowledge and the chance to work with specialists who are international leaders in their field wide choice the programme is organized by the nijmegen centre of language studies and the university of tilburg 70 km from nijmegen the programme challenges students and offers many possibilities to individual students in the programme you will begin with an introduction into the four main topics 1 communication and information sciences 2 language and speech technology 3 language variation and acquisition and 4 the theory and structure of language after six months you will choose two of these topics for further studying the programme the programme which takes two years is structured as follows · fourgeneralcourses20ec · fourcorecourses20ec · twoadvancedcourses10ec · fouroptionalcourses20ec · termpaper5ec · thesisseminar5ec · researchtraining15ec · thesis25ec once you ve graduated you ll be awarded a master of arts degree.
