julius wanted to take things further and started investigating new possibilities since he lived close to the dutch border he also looked at dutch institutions and was impressed by radboud university he liked this modern university with its sophisticated technology its large arsenal of computers and fast internet/intranet and wlan which led to his decision to start a bachelor s degree programme there julius althoughnijmegenisacitywithover160,000inhabitants,itis small-scale and very friendly it s easy to get to know people it s the same here at the university our programme is small-scale but that means the professors are very approachable and know all their students there is hardly any distance we re part of the same committees and i even `fought against one of my teachers in karate class at the university technology is changing rapidly we keep our laptops and mobile phones within reach all day and we communicate through email constantly yet we barely realize how this is affecting our lives all this new technology poses great challenges for information scientists this is what fascinates me how people relate to technology how technology affects people and how we can optimize technological processes within companies julius mücke is a german student who came to nijmegen to study information science after finishing school i started my vocational training in computer science specialising in application development this gave me experience in setting up computer systems tackling computer problems and dealing with customers i was responsible for twenty networks and developed applications for palmtop computers it was all very interesting but it made me realise just how big the gap was between the way customers think and the way systems are set up julius mücke master s student in information science information science offers a wide range of courses from technical it subjects to artificial intelligence and management julius is fascinated by the science of managing information and chose the programme s management track for his master s thesis julius will investigate work processes at radboud university students and employees have different needs and requirements so i want to look at the challenges this poses for the university as a whole and how it relates to this in information science you don t just look at technology but also at how technology influences people and their work processes it s the science of the future sports centre i would never have thought these things were possible before i came here
