new products are primarily successful when information about potential health benefits spread by opinion makers from health sciences government and industry to the public point to the fact that there are four domains that in concert determine the degree of success scientific knowledge of these domains is essential to be able to bridge research insights with business matters effectively in this respect four potential areas of science along with developments in food regulation/law should be continuously evaluated 1 biomedical sciences addressing the impact of nutrition components on health and disease prevention 2 consumer research in the area of health concerns and disease risks and desired benefit communications 3 new technologies of ingredient extraction modification and processing impacting on product application opportunities 4 food regulatory/law developments and health benefit claim possibilities integrating knowledge of these areas enables us to estimate the potential
