coming to maastricht from abroad students from non-eu/eea countries wishing to reside in the netherlands for more than three months are required to obtain a residence permit in order to enter the netherlands non-eu/eea students except those from japan the united states canada new zealand south korea or australia may also need an entrance visa once you have been admitted to a master s programme the maastricht university visa office will contact you and assist you with visa and permit procedures if for some reason you have not received any information about visas or residence permits two months prior to the start of your programme please send an email to visa@maastrichtuniversity.nl indicating your nationality and the name of your programme for more information please visit www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/visa students from eu/eea countries only need a valid passport to reside in the netherlands for international students the guesthouse um offers furnished rooms often on a temporary basis many international students choose to stay first at the guesthouse um until they can find a more permanent student room or apartment more information is available on the guesthouse website www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/guesthouse combining work with your studies due to the intensive nature of the programmes most master s students are discouraged from working however some do conduct a paid internship or find a job as a student tutor or student assistant if you are from a country outside the eu/eea you will need a work permit to be able to work or do a paid internship an employer must apply for this permit on your behalf once you have your work permit and if you have a residence permit for the purpose of study you are entitled to work ten hours per week and three months full time during the summer because of the complicated dutch immigration laws it is difficult to find employers who are willing to apply for permits for you you must have special skills to be granted a permit also be aware of the fact that earning money can affect issues such as grants taxes and health insurance living accommodation there are many rooms studios apartments and student houses available in maastricht via a single agency the kamerburo the kamerburo acts as an intermediary for many property owners offering student accommodation and a number of housing corporations also let their apartments and studios through the organisation students from ages 17 to 30 can register with the kamerburo via the internet www.kamerburo.net the registration fee is 30 the website also provides additional information about the procedure 11
