history take a class 403 223-1169 of taber and district community adult learning association celebrating 40 years of adult learning in our community 1972 2012 the taber and district community adult learning was first organized in 1972 when the taber school division responded to correspondence from advanced education jack herman coordinated the first further education classes this was a very small part of his job description with the taber school division at this time there was no involvement from rural representatives or other agencies some of the first courses offered were conversational german and french the first council was organized by jack herman and jean stone in about 1974 toni townsend was a rep on council in the hays area before she was hired as the coordinator in 1976 she was the first coordinator hired by the school board she was hired to work part time and operated out of her home toni helped to establish the council which included volunteer reps alberta agriculture town of taber parks and recreation and the school board she planned taber courses and coordinated council affairs popular courses included macramé quilting and conversational french the council held monthly meetings and the office was situated in the town administration office anne wilson was hired as the second coordinator in 1980 her hours of work were part time and her office was at the taber school division meetings were still held monthly and one of the most popular courses was computers the school division was actively involved in council affairs and promoting parenting courses in december of 1984 marv wickstrom then parks and recreation director took over the role of coordinating council affairs in august of 1985 jane brenner was hired as the part time coordinator for the council this position became full time in 1992 over the past 40 years taber and district community adult learning has provided a variety of services · 1987 present taber and district volunteer adult literacy program · 1987 2003 lethbridge community college taber campus · 1998 2003 industry canada community access program · 1996 present family literacy program thanks to · 1997 2003 national volunteer week · 1999 2011 career resource centre dults for aber and area a t · 1998 2003 industry canada community access program itment · 2001 2003 community kitchen belief and comm your · 2007 present esl drop in centre ing to lifelong learn · 2011 present citizenship learning · 1995 present families learning together esl program · 2009 present work foundation esl program · seniors programming · youth employment program · special events conferences women s conference precision farming conference palliative care conference opening the doors to employability technology workshops rural resiliency conference · take a class catalogue · ged 4
