transitional shelters daadab over 2,000 refugees continue to arrive every week even more have come as drought worsens across the region abdul aziz his wife and four young children were among them looking forward to a new beginning they walked and hitched rides for 18 days and 500 kilometers to reach dadaab the transitional shelter approach recognises that reconstruction lasts two to five years but that a tent only lasts around one year this approach is not another phase of response instead it involves building and upgrading a shelter incrementally from plastic sheeting to sustainable local materials which are all then reused as part of reconstruction assistance to displaced and nondisplaced populations is often delayed as housing land and property rights cannot be resolved quickly however transitional shelter can be relocated and can therefore be supportive immediately and continuously until reconstruction is complete uted over a year ago even the tents that are existing at the moment cannot stay intact during the rains chance in life international has hope that we can prevent a future disaster if we take precautions now we can provide these families with a better form of shelter to save them from what they will go makeshift shelters in through when the daadab refugee camp are rains catch them in made of plastic papers and tarps that were distrib this condition.
