seton keough s biomedical and engineering programs turn four the biomedical program receives full accrediation after just three years seniors from the class of 2012 received their cords for graduation having completed four years of study in either engineering or biomedical science the class of 2012 is the first class to graduate having completed the program the seniors from the biomedical program who received four credits for biology for college are winter ausby victoria alexander sydney brewer erica cegelski shelby collins denera covington katie dingle erin manuel amy meyer sara rivera and meghan walston the engineering seniors are marie allen abby brown shannon oliver and kate tennant t congratulations to pltw bio-med he washington post published an article last winter about how the science engineering and math departments at many major colleges are looking for better ways to teach their classes it seems that the lecture classes so predominant in large universities because they can pack in so many students are driving away students in these disciplines students are looking for active learning environments and that is not what lecture classes offer seton keough s project lead the way bio-medical and engineering classes and all of the school s science classes are hands-on project-learning-based settings where students not only learn they also do students are doing experiments working on computers writing down what they are seeing happen not just what they are listening to this is what makes science and engineering so interesting in march seton keough s project lead the way bio-medical program received full accreditation from the pltw accreditation team this is a major accomplishment for the program and our teaching team of ms lauren urban and dr ray neumann who deserve high praise for a job very well done the program at seton keough is only in its third year and accreditation is normally given after the program runs a full cycle of four years the visiting team of professionals from stevenson university maryland state department of education and project lead the way were very impressed with the classes they observed the students they met how the classes have effectively used the curriculum provided by pltw and the support the program receives from the school community the accreditation will also guarantee that seniors graduating from our program will receive full college credit for firstyear biology the credit will be granted by stevenson university and is transferable to any college or university congratulations to the entire science faculty every science class at seton keough is hands-on and activity-based the work is hard but the results are exciting this is the kind of learning that all the young women at seton keough deserve 6 seton keough high school news www.setonkeough.com
