mihi nui ki a koutou katoa dad s day we were going to have our annual dads-back-to school day on the last day of this term however we have decided to keep pet day on the last day of the term 28 september with dads day now to be held on friday 7 september 2012 this invite is to all dads uncles granddads or even the next-door neighbour in fact anybody who is willing to take on the kids in 3 challenges you will note that we have divided the day into 3 parts and the dads can come to any one of the 3 or choose the one that best suits we will send out lunch order next week personalised learning both the bot and staff have been doing a lot of work developing and refining our approach to personalising the learning to the needs of our students in this newsletter principal s message dad s day personalised learning newsletter articles cross country term dates school notices nps on central affco nz ltd dental permission forms hearing vision checks lost subway lost property netbook orders school banking sports notices personalised learning at ngatea primary school is the tailoring of pedagogy the way we teach the curriculum and learning support in an authentic learning environment to meet the needs and aspirations of individual learners ngatea netball personalised learning is about waikato development seeing learners as co-investors in education squad students developing a far greater ownership and responsibility for calibre taekwon do their own learning basketball adapting programmes to best meet the needs of every student giving students choices in learning community notices students having a voice about what and how they learn students learning to learn hp rural show learners and teachers working together in a knowledge-building child/student support learning environment volunteer reversing the logic of education systems so that the system is fireworks display built around the learner rather than the learner being required to kiwi talent quest fit with the system st johns developing new ways of thinking about equity and diversity achieving equity is not just about addressing the under achievement or disengagement of particular groupings of students and communities learning needs to be open to all students adapting our resources and learning environment to suit a more modern approach to learning why personalised learning the development of technology has freed up information or knowledge to everybody where previously learning was based around knowledge students can now access this in various formats on the internet wikipedia e-newspapers youtube blogs etc without 3

having to wait for the teacher to deliver it furthermore technology has allowed teachers to better support the students in their learning on a 1:1 basis rather having to teach to the whole class or group students are no longer required to just regurgitate the knowledge they learnt but now need to process it to show their understanding of this knowledge how will this affect your child s learning in general primary schools have made a lot of progress in personalised learning to the needs of the children staff at ngatea primary school are now further scaffolding how such learning will look like at the various year levels in the school personalised learning is not something we can put a tick behind and move on it s a continuous process which we will continue to review and develop giving more quality time to individuals or smaller groups with similar needs in the class also means that students will not necessarily be working with the teacher in every curriculum area every day quality vs quantity where the teacher may have been working with students in bigger groups to cover some broader needs these groups will become much smaller to allow the teacher to support the children with specific learning goals furthermore children will need to develop self management skills to allow the teacher to work with smaller groups students will develop the skills that are required for them to manage their learning timetables also known as self-directed learning as they progress through the year levels we believe that spending quality time with students rather than quantity will boost the learning of every student we believe that by addressing the individual needs rather than trying to cover broad needs it will benefit all students let s treat the wounds rather than trying to put plasters on them and hope they all heal newsletters closing dates for articles to lift the pressure on admin staff during very busy friday mornings it has been decided that articles etc must please be submitted no later than 3 p.m on thursdays this will allow staff to complete the newsletter on thursday afternoons before printing them early friday mornings ngatea primary school cross country date monday 13 august 2012 venue south farms mangatarata time 10 a.m turn left at the golf course turn right into south road approx 1.9 km take first farm road on right 10m postponement will be placed on the nps website www.ngatea.school.nz postponement date will be tuesday 14 august 2012 please ensure children wear appropriate clothing bring plenty of water and have a change of clothes 4 your support will be welcomed.
