information and communication technology ict new approaches in design designing innovative consumer products and professional systems for today s market can be extremely challenging traditional hardware software partitioning is often no longer enough to manage the complexity of current and future designs perspectives of integration of complete systems in one chip or product demand new approaches in design such systems are often real-time systems that communicate with their global environment e.g wireless and electro-optical communication they perform simultaneous signal processing and have intelligent multimedia interfaces designing such complex systems requires special skills and knowledge the ict programme provides the skills to specify design build test and evaluate advanced ict systems the systems can consist of hardware software or hardware software co-designs programme structure the programme takes two years full-time and consists of a course programme and a design project the course programme is composed individually usually containing 14 courses some of the ict design courses as well as courses for the development of personal skills are obligatory project related specialization may be different for each student the scheduling of the programme is flexible design project the second part of the programme consists of a design project preferably in industry the project takes twelve months and in some cases is spread over two years in accordance with the supervising professor the candidate will be given the opportunity to gather specialized knowledge for the design project a project results in a design a final presentation and a written report projects can be found in the fields of telecommunication embedded systems digital signal processing medical applications computer technology and vlsi design wishes of applicants with respect to future career plans are taken into account as much as possible phd programmes the tu/e offers the possibility of obtaining a doctor s degree on design if scientific breakthroughs on technology or methodology have been achieved in the past some very successful candidates have been offered a continuation of their pdeng-project enabling them to obtain a phd degree.

career perspectives after successfully completing all parts of the study programme students will receive a certified diploma a certified designer has in-depth knowledge of design processes theoretical as well as practical which clearly distinguishes him/her from a `normal msc most of the ict graduates have found excellent positions in industry often within the company in which the final design project was carried out or in the company of an industrial partner application the programme information and communication technology is open to recently graduated msc students from top universities only more specifically application is only open to those candidates holding an msc degree that is recognized by the netherlands organization for international cooperation in higher education see www.nuffic.nl and to those candidates who have passed a regular post-bsc scientific study programme of at least two years in the fields of electrical engineering physics computer science or mathematics admission standards are high in order to maintain the quality of the programme good marks technical background possible work experience motivation and personality are decisive factors the number of vacancies is limited acceptance is fully dependent on the availability of projects funded by industry unfortunately the sai-ict management team receives letters from applicants holding a bachelor s degree in science or engineering only these applications cannot be taken into consideration an exception can be made if the applicant has about five years of industrial experience in design-oriented projects in principal application is possible at any time however non-eu members are encouraged to apply before december 31st to be admitted september 1st or may 31st to be admitted january 15th in any case please contact the director of the programme sai-ict the programme does not supply application forms an application letter with attachments including necessary documents such as cv certified copies of your diplomas list of subjects and obtained results two letters of recommendation result of ielts test and other references can be sent by mail or e-mail to prof.dr ing l.m.f kaufmann director programme information and communication technology sai-ict his address is shown on the back cover.
