scholastics issue 5 has been sent home with all students if you would like to purchase any books please complete the order form and return with payment to the school office by 7th august 2012 cash cheque and credit cards accepted ­ please make cheque out to scholastics affco nz ltd affco nz ltd is again running the cash for schools bobby calf fund raising programme this season this is a fantastic opportunity to generate cash for the school last year affco nz ltd donated more than $100,000 to local schools as a result of the programme all you have to do is register your bobby calves with affco nz ltd for the current season see form enclosed and nominate our school for the donation it doesn t cost you anything because afffco nz ltd pays the donation over and above normal supplier payments if you don t have a dairy farm then sign up your neighbours friends and whanau so get in behind the school and register your bobby calves today call into the office and pick up the necessary forms to support ngatea primary school hearing and vision checks hearing and vision checks in school will be at ngatea primary school on monday 10th september ­ 9.00 o clock the objective of the vision is to identify previously undetected hearing and vision defects which children are routinely checked catch up screening for children who have not completed hearing and vision checks as part of their b4 school check children absent from previous visit require re-tests or follow up in special circumstances parents teachers or others may request a hearing or vision check new immigrants what tests are carried out ears audiometry ­ hearing test tympanometry ­ middle ear function test only carried out when hearing test is not within a normal range eyes long distance vision tests ­ not a complete visual examination but a simple screening test colour vision tests year 7 boys only nb all these checks are non-invasive safe and should cause no discomfort the vision hearing technician will notify parents of all test results enter results on ministry of education data base enrol the vision hearing technician will obtain personal details from the school i.e names dates of birth ethnicity if the technician needs to contact parents or caregivers following the visit addresses and phone numbers will also be required community services may share this information with other health professionals involved in the children s care if any parent or caregiver does not want their child to be checked or their child is currently under specialist care for a hearing or vision defect they should let the technician know by leaving a message with the school a new idea for dealing with ocd add adhd autism class 2th august in hamilton ­ this class is run by diva diaz who is on the spectrum of all of these and she will share tools she uses to assist herself and others to function in society with more ease for more info see 4

that the $450 price will be maintained more information will be given to parents when they register their interest at the school office sports notices ngatea netball please can all trophy winners from last season return them asap to the school office thank you ngatea magpies after having a bye last week you will all be looking forward to getting back on the court training on friday and game on saturday at 9.50 please be there by 9.30 saturday the 11th will be the last day of netball for the season ngatea 3 a good game played against mangatangi last week with a comfortable win of 29-9 player of the day went to kayla watson-keep up the good defensive work this week we have two games to play one at 9.00 against kerepehi and a catch up game against mangatangi at 10.40 please be there by 8.30 the 11th of august is the last day for the netball season calibre taekwon do a few weeks ago we had a taekwon do instructor come to our school assembly and demonstrate his skills we are interested in starting a 4-7 year old class here at ngatea primary school once a week after school so far we have 8 students keen to start this class and we need 15 if there is anyone who has children aged between 4-7 who might be interested in joining please get in touch as soon as possible so we don t miss our chance to get our younger ones involved contact vanessa email vanessal@ngtaea.school.nz or phone/text 027 2824491 6
