get started erasmus university rotterdam about erasmus university rsm is the business school of the prestigious erasmus university erasmus university was founded in 1913 and is home to the first nobel prize winner in economic sciences jan tinbergen today the university is esteemed world-wide for its medical economics law and business segments in addition to rsm it hosts institutes including the erasmus school of economics and the erasmus mc university medical centre the university has some 3,500 academics and staff involved in teaching and research delivery and more than 20,000 students enrolled in preand post-experience programmes some 2,400 of these students are international and their number is growing each academic year as the business school of the university rsm is situated on the main campus ­ the woudestein campus the campus is modern leafy and contains the latest facilities including the auditorium the various departments of the university office the university library the sports complex and the erasmus expo congress centre it also hosts numerous shops restaurants cafes and the popular `in de smitse bar a modern leafy campus the erasmus university campus is split over two areas in rotterdam the `business campus is situated on the main campus on the eastern side of the city centre and the `medical campus including the teaching hospital is to the west of the city.

get started all my life i have been living in my home country bulgaria but i have always wanted to continue my higher education in an international environment i decided to come to the netherlands and especially to rotterdam not only because this is a hub of international trade and transport but also a renowned academic and educational center the program at iba at rsm offers you a truly international environment and gives you an opportunity to experience many fields of the business world in my second year i had the chance to work as a mentor at the university trying to share my knowledge and experience with the first year students and help them with their transition in iba i strongly believe that the mentor program is beneficial for every new student since the students get provided with insights and valuable advice about the practical side of the program over my two years in iba i met many interesting young people from across the world and learned how to work in a team of people that have completely different backgrounds but share the same drive and motivation to succeed iba provided me with a strong academic knowledge and multicultural experience which i am anxious to apply in practice during my upcoming internship in brussels next trimester mariya lazarova bulgaria 12­13

curriculum the international business administration programme offered by the rotterdam school of management takes a broad approach and is research-driven it is deemed important that students take at least two courses within each of the functional areas in the domain of business hence fields like finance accounting marketing operations personnel and strategic management show up at various moments in the bachelor programme as a research university we have made sure that not only teaching staff is actively involved in high-calibre academic research but that this is also reflected in the way courses are taught alongside students will be well-prepared for a scientific and academic attitude towards the business contents they encounter during studies credit points the study load is specified in credit points an academic year consists of 60 ects european credit transfer system one credit point is the equivalent of 28 hours and includes lectures reading preparation for tests exams and the writing of papers first year students are introduced to the field through the course introduction to international business this course provides an overview of production marketing organisation financial and information processes economics is studied in more detail in microeconomics and macroeconomics and finance and accounting is an important part of the programme in international business the people who work in a firm are vital resources and owners of highlyrelevant knowledge behaviour in organisations is studied at an introductory level in an organisational behaviour course operations management highlights primary processes within firms product development purchasing sales and production courses in quantitative methods techniques mathematics statistics and a skills trajectory offer supporting sciences that are required in academic training skills development during your first year you have the opportunity to take a skills development course this course offers training in it skills communicative skills presentations discussions study skills such as reading and listening as well as writing skills and time-management skills you will need these skills when working in multicultural groups as from your second trimester you will be working on a business plan for a real firm you will work with other students in small groups and give a final presentation for an audience of colleagues
