newsletter volume 8 july 22 2010 kahikatea at cross country dear students parents and caregivers hope you enjoy our `new-look sports newsletter it s been over 4 years since we have been publishing our own newsletter and thought it was time for an electronic update any feedback would be great our nzct aims games team is nearly finalised with over 180 students involved representing our school at this huge event team lists for the 14 codes will be published in our next newsletter congratulations to our tai mitchell boys they went through their 7 games undefeated and were crowned bay of plenty primary school champions for the third successive year i would like to congratulate the boys for their commitment and also the huge amount of time that mr blake carlin mr reuben potaka and mr daniel fifita committed to the team.your dedication does not go unnoticed a huge thank you to mr jim gartshore and his team at gartshore construction mr glenn coterill at pak n save tauranga and the tauranga intermediate student council for their support of the team our new gymnasium is 98 complete and will begin being used by the students in the next 2 weeks it is an amazing facility and our students and community are very fortunate gareth scholes deputy principal sponsors of the tauranga intermediate school sports academy school cross country winter sports teams weekly draws can be obtained at the following sites on the internet hockey www.tgahockey.co.nz basketball www.westernbaybasketball.co.nz netball www.hotline.co.nz [1]

tai mitchell rugby tournament tauranga west win again tauranga west tai mitchell won this years annual tai mitchell tournament held in murupara tauranga west were the only undefeated team at the conclusion of pool play qualifying in 1st place with 25 points after receiving four points for victory and a bonus point from every game results from pool play were as follows day 1 won 26-14 v whakatane day 2 won 27-0 v rotorua maroon day 3 won 82-0 v rotorua gold 51-0 v rangitaiki day 4 won 20-5 v te puke day 5 won 13-8 v galatea in semi finals day 6 finals won13-8 v tauranga east the final was a tightly contested game with west winning 13-8 after going to the half-time break leading 3-0 courtesy of a penalty kicked by no 10 tyler bidios rm 1 west then scored early in the 2nd half again through tyler bidios tauranga tauranga east fought back and west making a scored through a move well-executed move from a scrum and this is tauranga west s converted their try to third consecutive victory make the score 8-7 no 20 and 5th win from the last six jayde malcolm-heke rm 12 then years with victories in 2005 ran blindside from a scrum to 2006 2008 2009 2010 score the final points of the the team were undefeated game tauranga east once during all pre-tournament and again fought hard crossing the tournament games the team line in the dying stages only for received 8 nominations from the the referee to rule the ball lost bay of plenty roller mills forward and blow full-time selectors the team is made up tauranga west s no 8 curtis of 16 students from tauranga epapara rm 2 was awarded intermediate 4 from aquinas player of the tournament and college 1 from te puna primary was presented with his award by and 1 from oropi primary this all black and bay of plenty years team was coached by steamers first five mike blake carlin reuben potaka and delaney daniel fifita victorious 2010 tai mitchell tauranga west team [2]

pb/bop indoor climbing competition taupo also congratulations to lakyn for placing 1st in the new zealand nationals over the on friday 2nd july 12 students holiday break and getting 1st in went to taupo for the bop the speed climbing poverty bay intermediate rock climbing competition we did 2 thank you to mrs mills for climbs on each climb we had organising our team and mr 2 minutes to get to the top macdonald for taking us to taupo tauranga intermediate did very well taking home the year 8 bridget shield also we took home room 16 some individual prizes levi in kauri house room 18 was 2nd in the year 7 boys hamish in room 19 came 2nd in the year 8 boys lakyn in room 24 came 1st in the year 8 girls and bridget in room 16 came 3rd in the year 8 girls nzct aims games player/parent coach meeting tuesday 3 august 6.00pm school hall please attend for important information levi offner checking all is secure you can t put a limit on anything the more you dream the farther you get michael phelps [3]

billets billets billets families required sunday 5 september friday 10 september 2010 nzct aims games billets from south island we have been approached again from 2 christchurch intermediate schools to host sporting students who are competing in the nzct aims games we have helped out these schools in the past and wish to continue assisting them as it is hugely expensive for them to travel to this national sporting event billeting would be from sunday 5th september friday 10th september once at school their team would make their own travel arrangements for the day with team mini-vans christchurch south intermediate are sending up their netball team of 10 girls and a team of football boys approx 18 chisnalwood intermediate also have 32 students who also require hosting rugby 7 s 12 waterpolo 10 girls basketball 8 badminton boys 2 so if you re up for a new experience that week where you ll meet and get to know students from the south island can provide a bed meals and a safe family home for the students get them to school each day where they will make their own travel arrangements then we would love to hear from you please return to the sports office yes i can take 1/2 girl/s/boy/s from christchurch south intermediate yes i can take 1/2 billet/s from chisnalwood intermediate boy/girl please circle students name room address phone number email address signed [10]
