this article is in remembrance of kiron big kountry jenkins big kountry has been a friend of mine for over 10years and with just have spoken to him a couple weeks ago it is still hard for me to fathom the fact that he is no longer here with us big kounrty was not only a loyal friend but he was a devoted father son and brother though big kountry was able to hold his own he was hardly the trouble maker he was hard working and wanted the best for his 3 children big kountry is no longer here with is in body but will always be here with us in spirit i pray peace for his family and other friends as they go through this rough time i hope that we as a black community will one day open our eyes let go of all the unnecessary nonsense and realize that we must come together and build a better tomorrow for our children so that they may live long productive lives in peace without having to watch over their shoulders to the family may god bless you today and every day death leaves a heartache no one can heal love leaves a memory no one can steal marcel canty levitatemagazine.com 9

transitioning does not have to be hard karen d stacks transitioning from chemically treated hair to natural hair does not have to be traumatic if the process if properly executed when hair has been chemically treated the bonds of that hair has been permanently altered permanent means forever therefore you can not strip nor reverse chemically treated hair this hair will have to grow out or be cut off there are some methods such as frequently shampooing the hair while mixing agents that are highly acidity ex lemon juice with shampoo this method will eventually causes the hair strand to swell and gives the appearance that the chemicals have been removed but the fact of the matter remains the same the chemicals are still present the key to a successful transition is in product knowledge natural hair will require a lot of moisture make sure that you keep your hair and scalp clean and free of debris by using a cleansing shampoo followed by a moisturizing levitatemagazine.com shampoo after you have shampooed and rinsed your hair thoroughly make sure you condition with a combination of strengthening and moisturizing conditioners at this point steam treatments are excellent because it is a moisture building service once you have properly conditioned the hair and rinsed well follow up with a leave in conditioner and proceed with your desired style your styling choice will be detrimental to the health of your hair excessive heat and tension can cause long term damage at this point you would want to use moderate heat or choose textured styles ex two strand twists or straw sets styles such as these take the stress of heat and tension away from the hair strand until next time enjoy the transition 11
