moss park junior school news newsletter number 7 telephone 0161 864 1710 fax 0161 864 1723 email mossparkjun.admin@trafford.gov.uk web site www.mossparkjun.net friday 29th june 2012 head teacher deputy head teacher office manager mrs k stallman b.ed hons npqh mrs h massey npqh mrs s corrigan csbm olympic celebrations we have embraced the spirit of the games totally and enjoyed a number of events visits and inspirational talks about london 2012 sport and past games we have held our own `opening ceremony attended by parent governor mr colin cunningham our chair mr nigel hooley attended the presentation by mr gunn a parent who is responsible for the organisation of a number of events in the london 2012 games mr garry bowen our community governor attended our `olympic sports day and we enjoyed a presentation by craig heap a past competitor in the olympic and commonwealth games we took part in the trafford torch relay receiving moss park infant school s torch and then taking ours on foot to st hugh of lincoln primary school on 20th june art days are focussing on the children producing their own artistic impressions of olympic athletes and their sport and these will be displayed on our corridor for london 2012 we could not believe it when our olympic sports day finals were rained off on tuesday 26th we still have a few events to run and certificates and medals to present so we will take the children out on the next fine afternoon and finish what we started a closing ceremony will be held afterwards the event is just for the children they have joined in with all our olympic activities with tremendous enthusiasm a huge thank you must go to all the staff and especially mr richards for the hard work and organisation which has gone into making this a wonderful and unforgettable experience for everyone in our school curriculum enhancement we are a very busy school and work hard to ensure that our children have exciting experiences to enhance their learning this term we have rounders club y4 y5 netball club y6 tag rugby tournaments y6 zumbatomic club y3 y4 `one goal positive behaviour project y4 olympic skills club y2 y3 and food technology at lostock y5 wherever possible school funds these clubs events visits and visitors so that we do not have to ask parents too often for money when we do have to ask for contributions usually for visits off-site involving coach travel we are very grateful to parents for supporting us in this way and sending in the amount we ask for thank you 1

royal diamond jubilee celebrations on friday 1st june everyone came dressed in red white and blue and we had a `street party lunch at the front of school every child was given a jubilee mug which also had our logo printed on one side the sun shone on us and we enjoyed the bunting cream cakes and ice cream judo club the judo club is taking place on wednesdays at 8.00am and will run for 5 weeks pupils taking part can have a breakfast in school after the club before lessons begin this is a very popular club and the children who attend show a good level of skill year 5 olympic enterprise project this took place on tuesday 19th june business students from mmu and 2 members of st antony s catholic college staff worked with our y5 children on an enterprise project to produce a presentation of an olympic bid for their chosen country they designed a logo a poster and prepared a speech this was a brilliant morning and the children were praised for their entrepreneurial skills and outstanding behaviour year 5 visit to manchester art gallery this is also a great visit for our very lucky year 5 pupils and staff who are involved in a twinning project with a school from reddish both classes and classes from the stockport school will visit the gallery on tuesday 17th 5s and wednesday 18 th july 5b as part of their history curriculum year 4 trip to bramall hall on monday 25th june year 4 pupils visited bramall hall as part of their history work `come play with the halle at bridgewater hall today all our year 3 pupils and 12 y4 french horn players took part in a concert involving other trafford primary schools at the bridgewater hall with the halle orchestra the children were `buzzing when they arrived back at school what a wonderful exciting musical morning we had as usual our children behaved impeccably we were very proud year 3 trip to the sikh gurdwara a very interesting visit is planned for year 3 children on wednesday 11th july every year our youngest pupils visit the gurdwara where they learn more about the sikh religion as part of their religious education work this visit is for general knowledge only and the children do not take part in any prayer or religious teachings more information will follow mufc coaching for year 6 pupils coaches from mufc school of excellence are working with our oldest pupils this half term they have already worked with other year groups and this is always a very popular activity 2

year 5 `buzzing bees project at wellacre academy on tuesday 3rd july both y5 classes will visit wellacre academy to study the work and importance of bees 5b will leave school at 9.00am and return at 11.30am 5s will leave school at 12.50pm and return by 3.10pm school uniform and pe kit we are always grateful for the cooperation of parents with regard to school uniform and pe kit we have had a few pupils wearing inappropriate `snap caps on the backs of their heads at play times and have witnessed a decline in behaviour and attitude the children have been asked not to bring these caps to school plain base-ball caps and caps with the school logo can of course be worn when it is sunny would parents also please note that black or grey cardigans for girls and `hoodies of any kind are not part of our uniform we would also request that parents ensure that their children continue to wear appropriate footwear and return to school in september wearing school shoes again please thank you for your cooperation year 5 parents information meeting monday 9th july 2012 a meeting for parents of our year 5 pupils is to be held on monday 9th july at 5.30pm in the school hall we will share information about transfer to year 6 and secondary school selection we would also like to show you a short 20 minutes approximately ceop child exploitation and on-line protection centre film aimed at children focussing on cyber safety for this reason we request that children do not attend this meeting thank you for your cooperation we look forward to seeing our year 5 parents on the 9th july fund raising at moss park junior school our children are very aware that many in our community are not as lucky as they the children and teachers are working very hard to organise and put on events that will be fun and also raise funds for their chosen charity last week s y5 cinema day was wonderful artsmark gold ­ success we were awarded this prestigious award for the second time last month the assessors said that we demonstrated an `excellent commitment to providing high quality arts provision embedded across the curriculum well done everyone year 5 infant playground leaders on thursday 28th june our playground leaders for the infant school were presented with their badges in a special assembly for the children and their parents and families the application process to be appointed as a playground leader is open to all 60 year 5 pupils who must complete an application form write a covering letter and have excellent behaviour in school mr richards and mrs boyer mpis teacher carry out the training and miss savage and mr boyer our teacher shortlist the applications and letters the successful playground leaders are karolyn waring elleigh spencer meredith barrett kelly simrah choudhry kailah otoo elliot collins stoneman daniel worral kevin biju james williams daisy lane ellie houston zaki ahmedi daryn dawood saad khan ruby gyves aleeza hashmi abbie grant megan chambers and sophie coyne well done 3

contacting school mrs corrigan can be contacted by phone from 8.30am until 4.00pm or 4.30pm if there is a club for the children running in school emails are usually read before 9.00am again after lunch and before mrs corrigan leaves at 4.45pm we deal with all emails within 24 hours wherever possible but if you have an urgent message a change of arrangement for your child or need to contact me or a teacher quickly please ring in to the school office as we would not want to miss important communication new classes for the academic year 2011 ­ 2012 on monday 23rd july we will hold our change-over visits when our children move up to meet their new teachers this is always a very exciting time and in september our school organisation will be y2a mrs acheson s class will become year 3h taught by miss higson y2cw mrs woodfield and mrs callaghan s class will become 3r taught by mr richards our present year 3r will become year 4rg taught by mrs richardson and mrs grainger who job share mrs grainger teaches monday tuesday and wednesday morning and mrs richardson teaches wednesday afternoon thursday and friday as mrs richardson is on maternity leave until november mrs elkington will continue as y4rg teacher with mrs grainger year 3h will become year 4r taught by mr read year 4r will become year 5s taught by miss savage year 4rg will become year 5b taught by mr boyer year 5b will become year 6m taught by mrs massey year 5s will become year 6a taught by mrs archer pupils annual written reports these will go home to parents on friday 13th july please do ask your child for their report as in the past these have been found after school in the park at the shops and in a puddle parents drop-in this will take place on monday 16th july from 4.00pm until 5.30pm and is an informal opportunity to speak to your child s teacher should you wish to year 6 leavers party will take place from 4.30pm ­ 6.00pm on tuesday 24th july more information will follow year 6 leavers assembly is at 9.00am on wednesday 25th july ­ same day that school breaks up for the summer where has this year gone this is both a sad and an exciting time for our year 6 pupils as they leave us it is always lovely to see so many parents and family members who join us to wish our oldest children goodbye and good luck for their futures 4

parent representatives on the governing body we would like to congratulate mr colin cunningham and mr michael lee who have both been elected as parent representatives on the governing body of our school thank you to all the parents who showed an interest in this worthwhile and important role in the life of our school the other parent representatives are mrs janet o gorman and mrs asiya yaqub the chair of governors is mr nigel hooley all governors on our governing body can be contacted through school parents questionnaire we are deeply grateful to the support our parents and families provide for our school and the children in our care we are constantly trying to improve our provision and recently asked parents and children to help us to improve our already extensive extra-curricular activities we do listen and always try to act upon what you say so please complete the questionnaire attached to this newsletter and return it to school by friday 13th july please once again thank you for your support and cooperation by working together we can make our school the best it can be for our children mrs k stallman head teacher moss park junior school newsletter number 7 this newsletter arrived home safely well done name of child/children class my mobile phone number has changed the first contact mobile phone number for my child is signed parent/carer 5
