phone 358-5204 28 june 2012 cellphone 027-362-5008 email office@milson.school.nz website www.milson.school.nz fax 358-2697 no 2012/20 p positivity/participation r respect/responsibility i individuality/integrity d determination e empathy/excellence principal s comments staffing news today sees the last day for julie cranshaw at our school last year she taught in room 9 and this year has been teaching in room 8 for one day of the week she has decided to be an at home mum for next term she will be sadly missed from school but we wish her all the best and will miss her cheery smile around school this will be sad but we can also smile because margaret barsanti will be picking up the gap and will be starting next term taking on julie s role in room 8 later in the term she will also be doing some teaching in other rooms it will be great to have margaret back on staff after her parental leave over the past 12 months we also want to congratulate am hapuku who had a son the other day both well yet to be named our best wishes to am who starts her new life as a mum term ends note that tomorrow is the last day of term 2 and the new term starts on monday 16th july if you can keep an eye out over the school holidays on the school property that would be appreciated as usual if you spot any vandalism or people causing damage etc please don t hesitate to ring the police note next term is 11 weeks long and finishes on friday 28 september term 3 this will be a busy term as usual classes will be extending work started this term around a technology unit looking at ways to enhance milson school kauri team will be attending winter tournament in week 3 and as well attending weekly swimming sessions at the freyberg pool a separate notice has come home about this with details this is a great opportunity and we look forward to any feedback about this later in the term we also will run two ptp conferences during the term in week 3 8 with our second major round of year 4-6 conferences in week 8 the board of trustees has been working over the past few weeks going through the appointment process to keep you updated about the process we intend shortlisting candidates this week and interviewing near the end of the school holidays we are hopeful that we can let you know of the successful candidate in week 2 next term the new appointee will take up the role in term 4 sarah spillane chairperson 1 sports stars congratulations to jamie linton for being selected to play for the palmerston north city u11 hockey rep team and also to madison browne for being selected into the palmerston north city u11 development squad 2 playhouse theatre performance on wednesday 25 july playhouse theatre will be performing their show `phone a friend the cost of the performance is $4.00 and is covered by activity fees if your child has not paid their activity fees please send $4.00 to school in a labelled envelope 3 library books have you returned any library books out please have them back tomorrow to the school library bot principal appointment messages and reminders

each year we run a spelling competition which is always highly contested having never been a great speller i am stunned by the ability of some of our children when it comes to this skill in particular some of our year 3-4 pupils are especially talented the finals for this will be run tomorrow as follows in the school hall i apologise about the short notice year 3-4 finals will be run at 9.10 am friday 29th tomorrow year 5/6 finals will be run starting at noon on friday 29th tomorrow we will start with the year 5/6 girls followed by the boys competition we will conclude with a challenge between the top boy and girl for the supreme speller this will be part of our bright sparks competition we run for year 5 6 pupils pupils who have been selected from 2 elimination rounds are as follows year 3 4 boys girls combined benjamin lyne scott lyall jack gallagher david clinton riley jack yasmin sealey wiremu te paiho samantha weld natasha vilivili and harry clark year 5&6 girls jaime linton emily mills amelia blair emma wallis amelia mercer skye hall keely puklowski bethany green kaea ruakura and caitlin sheard year 5 6 boys isaiah grant connor thane sedrick tango harry sargisson matthew younger carlin te rangi gareth mcintosh jordan townend joshua darke and james cameron spelling bee 2012 competition spelling champions from 2011 some pupils are still here in 2012 will they win again come tomorrow to find out a great result with over 400 items to add to the towns food drive thank you everyone for your support of this fund raiser for a local charity we ran a fun inter-class competition and this was won by room 12 with an average of 1.8 items per child room 7 was second and room 5 was third it is terrific our children can see that they can assist others in our community food drive mufti day thank you to the pta for organising this event unfortunately i couldn t attend with a family beareavment in new plymouth to attend however i understand it was very enjoyable with the new dj doing a terrific job thanks again to the pta for organising and coordinating this event pupil disco
